Adams Receives State Recognition for Outstanding Achievement
WA State Recognition for Outstanding Achievement from OSPI
For years, the Washington School Recognition Program has honored K–12 public schools across the state for closing opportunity gaps and for students’ growth and academic achievement.
Recognized schools like Adams Elementary in YSD will receive a banner to display in their buildings. The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) partners with the State Board of Education (SBE) and Educational Opportunity Gap Oversight and Accountability Committee (EOGOAC) to identify and recognize schools for the program.
Adams has been highlighted
- Closing Gaps: Making significant advancements for all students or specific student groups in the area identified for improvement.
- Growth: Adams made at least one student group among the highest performers on at least 60% of WSIF measures.
Special thank you to our staff and partnering parent organization.

Welcome Back Adams Families
Hello Adams Families,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! We hope you have been able to spend quality time with family and friends this summer. We are so excited to share our amazing Parent Booster Club finished last year strong with engaging Movie Nights and a great Field Day in June. Our Adams staff and parents are truly amazing, but we sure miss our students. We are excited to see everyone at Open House Tuesday, August 20th at 5:15 p.m. The first day of school is August 22nd, at starting at 8:45 a.m.
During pick up please be patient in the first week as many parents may be dropping off kids and our parking lot is often very crowded. Remember the area in front of the building (southside) is for pick-up and drop-off only. The area on the west side (8th Street) of the building is for Buses ONLY. Please watch for our bus/walker/pick up tags to arrive home shortly after school starts. If your student needs bus transportation and you need to update information, please call the school office at (509) 573-5100 or stop by the office between 8 AM and 3 PM. All Adams visitors and parents must check in the front door foyer during the regular school day, as we are working diligently to maintain a safe school environment. We also have 10 school precautionary drills a year, so do not be alarmed, as we are doing our best to prepare students for safety protocols.
Instruction day
● Kindergarten will start on August 28. The first day of kindergarten will start 8:45 a.m.
● Regular classes begin at 8:45 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m. m. Tuesday through Friday, and Mondays from 8:45am to 2:15pm.
● Drop off your student(s) no earlier than 8:15 a.m. since there is no supervision before 8:15 a.m.
● All students will be offered the opportunity to eat breakfast in their classrooms at 8:45 a.m.
● Our parking lot is usually very busy. Please remember that the area in front of the building is for student pick-up and drop-off only. The side of the building is for buses only. Be sure to leave these areas clear so buses and other vehicles can pass. Also watch for buses/students and families crossing. Pickup labels will be available.
● If your child needs to be dismissed early, it will need to be scheduled in the office 30 minutes before the end of the school day due to day transitions and office traffic.
Protection and security
● If your child is late, you will need to stop by the office to sign them in.
● All visitors / parents must sign in at the office during the regular school day.
● For your children's safety, please do not allow them to cross the parking lot alone.
● We have students who have life-threatening tree nut/peanut allergies. We ask that all treats brought to school be store bought with the label intact.

ATTENDANCE
Dear Parents,
Attendance is a key factor to having your child succeed in school. Therefore, it is very important that your child is at school on time. . . EVERYDAY. Students who miss just one or two days of school each month can fall seriously behind and lead to doing poorly in school and are more likely to not graduate. Every absence even if it is excused matters. They are missing learning when they are not here.
You are key to improving your child’s attendance.
On the flyer below there are a couple tips on how your child can be at school on time.
Sincerely,
Your Office Staff
Kindergarten Academy for next school year 2024-2025
We're thrilled to announce an important update to our Kinder Academy for incoming kindergarteners. To ensure an equitable, seamless and supportive start, Kinder Academy will align with the first four days of school. Traditionally held in early August, we found that only some of the Kindergartners attended. We hope that this schedule change will be a more efficient use of resources, which is important during our budget realignment process, and will make the academy more accessible to all Kinder students.
This means students will begin their kindergarten experience together with the broader school community, fostering a sense of belonging and readiness from the very start. They'll engage in activities designed to introduce them to school life, meet their teachers, and make new friends, setting a strong foundation for their educational journey.
Kinder Academy allows for a flexible start to the school year, allowing the first four days to be set aside for parent/teacher meetings, school orientation, important assessments and more.
We believe this adjustment will benefit our students, families, and community. More details will follow, and we're here to answer any questions you may have.
For more information about kindergarten enrollment, visit ysd7.org/kinder or call 509-573-7021.
