A Message from Principal Cherry

Happy November! As we move into this busy month, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude for your continued support and partnership. Your involvement in your child's education is invaluable. We also want to thank all of you who attended Parent Teacher Conferences as well as al of those who contributed food and drinks for the teachers on those nights.

Important Reminders

  • Winter Clothing: Please ensure your child has warm winter clothing, including hats, gloves, and coats. Please remind your child not to bring blankets to school. If they are in need of winter clothing, please talk with the counselor or social worker.
  • Flu Season: Encourage your child to practice good hygiene, such as frequent handwashing.

West on the field

On Friday, October 11, the students and staff assembled on the football field to spell out WJH. It was a great display of teamwork to get all 720 students and 50+ staff in the right place at the right time! We are so proud of everyone who made this happen.

Thank you to Daniel and Julie Forbes and Willie Alderson for the drone.

In addition to the WJH on the field, we also held our first assembly of the year. It is our annual PINK OUT assembly. During the week, the yearbook class sold items which raised over $400 that was donated to St. Luke's for breast cancer research.

Tech Newsletter

Parents:

All students received this email a few weeks ago regarding their devices. We just wanted you to also be aware of this information and what we expect from the students.

Dear Students,

As we dive deeper into the school year, we want to take a moment to talk about an essential tool that has become a part of your daily learning experience: your Chromebook. Proper use and care of these devices are vital for ensuring that they remain in good working condition and serve you well throughout the year.

Why Your Chromebook Matters

Your Chromebook is more than just a device; it’s a gateway to information, collaboration, and creativity. It enables you to access online resources, participate in class discussions, and complete assignments efficiently. Treating it well helps ensure that it continues to function optimally.

Best Practices for Use

  1. Log In and Out Properly: Always log out of your account when you’re finished using your Chromebook, especially in shared spaces. This protects your personal information and keeps your work secure.

  2. Use a Case: If you carry your Chromebook in a backpack, use a protective case. This helps prevent scratches and damage from bumps and drops.

  3. Be Mindful of Battery Life: Charge your Chromebook every night and unplug it when it’s fully charged. Remember to bring your charger to school, just in case you need a boost during the day.

Caring for Your Chromebook

  1. Keep It Clean: Regularly wipe down the screen and keyboard with a microfiber cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals; a little water will do the trick.

  2. Don’t Eat or Drink Near It: Food and beverages can easily spill and cause serious damage. It’s best to keep snacks and drinks away from your Chromebook.

  3. Handle with Care: When opening or closing your device, use both hands and avoid placing heavy objects on top of it. Always ensure it’s on a flat surface to prevent it from falling.

  4. Use Device Responsibly: Please be aware of BSD policy regarding your device: Responsible Use/Nonrefundable Damage Deposit. If you notice any problems with your Chromebook, report them to your teacher or tech support immediately.

Conclusion

Taking care of your Chromebook is essential for maximizing your learning experience. By following these simple guidelines, you can ensure that your device remains functional, efficient, and ready for whatever challenges the school year may bring. Let’s work together to keep our Chromebooks in top shape!

Happy learning!

Message From PTBC

Our next meeting in Thursday, November 7 at 7:00pm in the library. We will be discussing the December Candy Gram Sales and other volunteer opportunities available. Hope to see you there.

From the Social Worker

2024-25 Empowering Parents program grant applications are open. Applications will close when funding is exhausted, so we’re hoping families apply right away!

As a reminder, ALL parents of Idaho students ages 5-18 who filed a 2023 Idaho tax return are eligible. Families with adjusted gross incomes (AGI) of under 60k receive priority. Grants are $1,000 per student and up to $3,000 per family. The grant funds can be used for a huge range of items to support student learning – including laptops or technology, extracurricular classes, camps, and school athletic fees, driver’s education, tutoring or speech therapy – and more!

The application guide is available in English and Spanish and phone customer service agents are also bilingual.
