A Message From Superintendent Saxe
May 31, 2025
Dear Families, Staff and Community,
The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority. Because of this commitment, we take every concern brought to our attention very seriously.
On Wednesday, May 28, we received a serious allegation involving a staff member at Musselman Middle School. Following our standard procedures, the staff member was placed on administrative leave. As mandated reporters, we immediately notified the appropriate agencies, including the Department of Health & Human Resources, local law enforcement, and the West Virginia Department of Education.
We have since learned that Mr. Luke Seno was arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual assault, soliciting a minor via telephone, and sexual abuse by a person in a position of trust.
“As Superintendent, I am appalled and deeply troubled by the situation that has come to light at Musselman Middle School. What occurred is disturbing, and I want our families to know this is not something we will ever ignore, minimize, or tolerate. Every student deserves to feel safe and respected, and we have an unwavering obligation to protect them. We are fully committed to working with our law enforcement partners to ensure a thorough investigation and to take every necessary step to prevent anything like this from ever happening again.
I want to express my sincere appreciation to the staff members who brought concerns forward. It was through their report that we became aware of this situation. Their actions are a powerful reminder of the critical importance of speaking up when something does not seem right. See something, say something is more than a phrase—it is an expectation and a responsibility we all share in keeping our students safe.
We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing a safe, supportive, and respectful learning environment for every student in Berkeley County Schools.” — Dr. Ryan Saxe, Superintendent, Berkeley County Schools.
Berkeley County Schools is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Should further action be required upon its conclusion, we will take all appropriate steps in alignment with school policy and legal guidance.
We understand this situation raises serious concerns within our community. While we recognize the desire for additional information, we are unable to share further details in order to protect student privacy and preserve the integrity of the investigation.
If anyone has information that may be relevant, we strongly encourage you to contact local law enforcement.
Thank you for your continued understanding and support as we navigate this very serious matter.
Yours in Education,
Ryan S. Saxe, Ed.D
Superintendent
