School Families
From the Principal's desk.......
It has been a tough couple of weeks with Influenza A and other winter illnesses affecting many families across our school and wider community. Thank you to our families for reading the information we have sent home, keeping children home when they are unwell, and for your understanding and support. A big thank you also to our staff, who have been impacted by illness and have continually stepped in to cover classes and support one another. It has been a real team effort, and hopefully the worst of the winter bugs will soon be behind us!
Winter Olympics Here We Come!
Next week is going to be a huge one for our senior students. While a group of students will remain at school and take part in our Stanley Olympics, a week packed with sports, activities and challenges, our selected Winter Olympics team will head away to Totara Springs for the week.
There has been an enormous amount of preparation leading up to this event. Our students have been training hard, learning sports and skills outside some of our more familiar codes, and developing the teamwork they will need for a very busy week of competition. A massive acknowledgement must go to Di Meyler and Adreena Bishop for the huge amount of organisation, training and preparation they have put into making this opportunity possible for our students.
Today, Miss Hayes and I had the chance to head down to the Rec Centre for the team's hoodie presentation, and it was fantastic to see the excitement in the room. More importantly, you could really see how this group has come together as a team. They are ready to support one another, work hard and represent Stanley Avenue School with pride. Winter Olympics is a demanding week, with nonstop sport and plenty of challenges along the way. We also have a great team of parents joining us and supporting our students throughout the week, and we are incredibly grateful to them.
We would also like to acknowledge the sponsors who have supported our Winter Olympics team. You can read more about these wonderful supporters below. Their contribution has helped make this experience possible for our students.
Parents vs Students!
Today our boys' touch team took on a parents' team in what turned out to be a hard game. It was great to see so many family members getting involved, with plenty of support from the sidelines, some excellent sportsmanship and a brilliant atmosphere. The final score was 10 to 9 to the boys!
Congratulations, boys, you're off to a winning start already! To every student representing Stanley Avenue School at Totara Springs next week, we wish you all the very best. Work hard, support your teammates, enjoy the experience and represent our school with pride. We look forward to sharing updates from the week.
Rooms 7 & 8 On the Move
Rooms 7 and 8 have spent this week preparing for and moving into their temporary learning spaces in Room 13 and our library learning space, ready for our weather tightness project to begin next week. This is the beginning of a significant project that will continue throughout the remainder of the year. From next week, there will be contractors on site, along with fencing and signage around the areas where work is taking place. We will continue to keep our school community informed as the project progresses.
A big thank you to Miss Cooper and Miss Roycroft for all the work involved in making the move. Shifting an entire classroom is no small job! We appreciate their flexibility and all the preparation that has gone into making sure their students can settle quickly into their temporary spaces. We wish both classes all the best in their new homes while we look forward to seeing the improvements ahead.
Ngā mihi,
Nick Adams

Our Sports Shirts are available through Directgroup Uniforms and are available to purchase now. This is a great option as you can have a name printed directly on the shirt (Surnames are a great idea as these can be handed down to younger siblings) and will save a lot of time issuing and collecting sports shirts. At this time we still have our other sports shirts for anyone that is playing and has not purchased their own yet. Check them out at:
https://dgstore.co.nz/collections/stanley-avenue-school
You can purchase the sport shirts and they arrive directly to your address and they even have Afterpay so that it makes it possible to budget.
