Message from the School Nurse
As we move into the fall months, we also enter cold and flu season. Our goal is to keep students healthy, learning, and present at school. You can help by encouraging your child to practice healthy habits both at home and at school.
Here are a few tips to share with your child:
Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating and after coughing, sneezing, or using the restroom.
Use tissues or your elbow to cover coughs and sneezes to keep germs from spreading.
Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth to reduce the chance of germs getting into the body.
Get plenty of rest so the body stays strong and ready to fight off illness.
Stay active and eat nutritious foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to boost the immune system.
Drink water regularly to stay hydrated.
One virus that is common during this time of year is Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease. For more information about signs, symptoms, and how to treat this illness, please use the link found here from the CDC - https://www.cdc.gov/hand-foot-mouth/about/index.html
If your child is not feeling well, especially if they have a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, please keep them home until they are symptom-free for at least 24 hours without medication. This helps prevent the spread of illness to classmates and staff.
Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe and healthy. Together, we can help all of our students have a strong and successful season of learning!
Board Meeting Information
We want to let you know about a change in how you can watch school board meetings. Going forward, we will no longer be live-streaming the board meetings, but we will still be recording each meeting and posting the video on our website, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to watch at their convenience. Each recording will be available on the district’s website until the next school board meeting. The public is always able to attend school board meetings in person at the Annville-Cleona District Office.

SchoolCafe Account Information
Did you know that besides funding students' lunch accounts online, SchoolCafe has so much more to offer? Parents can fund student lunch accounts, view menus, view student purchases, and even place restrictions on student lunch accounts for a la carte purchasing. A la carte items include ice cream, snacks, specialty drinks, and teas, or anything else that does not qualify as a full meal.
To add restrictions to the account, families need to have created a SchoolCafe account. Once you log in on the left-hand side under the dashboard, you will see a menu item for purchase restrictions. If you click on purchase restrictions, it will take you to a page that allows you to set restrictions for à la carte items only. You can restrict which day of the week purchases can be made, the number of items per pay, or set a daily, weekly, or monthly maximum spend amount. All snack items at AE have increased in price by $.25 this year. Please be mindful of this increase when updating your child's account.

School Spotlight
It's been a busy week at AE! See below for some of the events and learning that have taken place!
Students in Mrs. Wilson's fourth-grade class played a game of Pop It to review and get ready for an upcoming math assessment! In groups, each student had to answer the math question correctly. they then rolled a die to see which group got to pop a balloon for extra points, candy, or a Dutchmen Dollar!
These sixth-graders loved their Dutchmen Champion Experience with Mrs. Martin - expert-level face painting!
Mrs. Hoover started teaching lessons in each classroom this week to discuss how students use their words responsibly. She shared that our words create the culture of our school. When we all choose responsible words that are kind, respectful, and supportive, we make our school a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
Congratulations to Declan Daubert! He completed the American Revolution packet over the summer, provided by Mrs. Shaak. He was rewarded with a giant-sized chocolate bar for going above and beyond to continue his learning!
Students in Mrs. Iacavone's fifth-grade math classes collaborated to complete a performance task on adding and subtracting decimals. We loved their teamwork!
This fourth-grade student participated in a Dutchmen Champion Experience this week - drawing with Mrs. Snyder!
Mrs. Rudy, our dean of students, rode the bus home with elementary students this week. During this time, she got to know students, discussed riding the bus safely, and reinforced positive behavior!
Students in Mrs. Miller's sixth-grade reading classes became experts in Greek roots this week. They were each assigned a root and taught their groups all that they had learned!
Students in Mrs. Balchune's third-grade class investigated the effect of balanced forces acting on a stationary object using fair tests and trials.
These fourth-grade students enjoyed a Dutchmen Champion Experience this week - lunch with Mrs. Rudy!
Our sixth-grade class took a moment to recognize our cafeteria workers on National Food Service Workers Day. We're so grateful for all that they do to ensure our students have nutritious and delicious meals each day!
Sixth-grade students have started to volunteer in AE's autistic support classroom during their flex period. They are working on building leadership skills, while also supporting Ms. Brown's students to continue to develop communication skills. Together, they are working on a project to celebrate staff in the building!
Pathways for Effective Communication
Directing questions and/or concerns to the appropriate person(s) encourages greater collaboration and streamlines the process of answering questions, alleviating concerns, and ensuring that we are all “on the same page”.
