It's A Great Time to Be A Witch! It's A Great Time to Be A Witch!

“BE ABOUT IT”

  • Live the values of our school community; show pride, respect, and responsibility not just by saying it, but by consistently doing it.

  • Follow through on commitments, whether that’s in academics, athletics, arts, or personal goals.

  • Model integrity by letting your behavior reflect your intentions—be the example others can count on.

“BE ABOUT IT” means don’t just talk about who you are or what you stand for, prove it every day through effort, character, and action.

Be About It!

In order to provide our whole school community an understanding of some of the great things happening at Salem High School we have created a podcast that we will be using to tell our story and more importantly let our students and educators shine!

Episode 4.1 - Student Agency: This week we are revisiting our interview with Junior Class President Yanalis Ventura to give us a look at life as a student leader at Salem High. Between balancing Early College and CTE commitments, Yanalis discusses what it's like to lead as an athletic captain and class officer. Plus, she shares key takeaways from her trip to Tucson, Arizona last year to learn from a high school there. We get to hear her favorite ideas that she hopes to bring back to SHS.

Salem chooses Segala as its new head football coach

Brett Segala is not the kind of person who dips a toe into chilly waters and wades his way slowly in. He’ll bring that same enthusiasm and positive vibes to the Witches, starting with his first team meeting this coming Monday.

Early College News Early College News

Hello SHS Students and Families,

Welcome new and returning Early College students for SY26-27! All Early College families must complete the Family Expectations & Handbook Acknowledgement Form.

All Spring 2026 grades have been posted to students’ SHS transcripts. Please reach out if you have any questions. Students may also contact their professor directly for clarification (through SSU/NSCC emails), although many professors are off contract through the summer.

Rising Seniors going on campus next year: There will be a mandatory orientation meeting towards the end of summer break (Date TBA). Most classes start on campus our first day back, Wednesday September 2, 2026. Stay tuned for more information.

If you are a student receiving IEP or 504 services, we strongly encourage students to connect with college accessibility each semester:

  • SSU: Requesting Accommodations for EC and DE Classes

  • NSCC: https://www.northshore.edu/support/accessibility/index.html

Interested in volunteering? To be eligible, you must have an active CORI on file with SPS. We are looking for volunteer coaches and guest speakers for next year’s Early College programming. We are especially interested in hearing from folks who work in healthcare, criminal justice, social work, education, business, or who are willing to share their own college and career journey. We are also looking for volunteer tutors in general or content-specific subjects. Even an hour a week helps our community immensely! Please reach out to me by email if you are interested in either opportunity: akirby@salemk12.org.

Otherwise, this is the last Early College weekly update for this school year–we hope everyone has a wonderful summer! I will be checking email intermittently through the summer months.

Alexandra Kirby

Early College Coordinator
