September Attendance Celebration
138 GES students with perfect attendance for September were treated to a very special program from Ann and David Ledgerwood. For part of the program, Ann's sister, Carol Raedy joined them on stage, as well. Everyone had a blast enjoying music from these very talented musicians. Students sang along to "You Are My Sunshine" and "Keep On The Sunny Side" as well as a song about our favorite foods.
Pumpkin Donation
Each child at Greendale Elementary School received a free pumpkin thanks to the generous donation of the Lowe Family.
Bosses' Day
Mr. Colston was recognized on Bosses' Day through humor. Faculty and staff delivered random balloons to him throughout the day with random phrases and words. By the end of the day Mr. Colston had balloons ranging from Get Well, Happy Birthday, SALE, and Roar to many others. He also received a cookie cake as a treat.
Student vs. Faculty Football Game
It has become tradition that each fall the faculty and fifth grade students face off in a football game. During this football game, fifth grade students serve in many roles. They spend the week leading up to the game preparing/practicing for these roles. Students serve as football players, pep band musicians, cheerleaders, and media/announcers. In addition, there is a student section that creates posters and the run-through banners for both teams. This year's game was electric with the fifth graders pulling out early for a strong lead. In the end the students came out victorious over the teachers.
Fall Festival
On Friday, October 24, GES held its annual Fall Festival. Families spent the evening participating in various activities such as games, hayrides, photo booth, tattoo a teacher, and a costume contest. Of course, a crowd pleaser for the students is always the inflatable bounce activities. A silent auction for various gift baskets was also held. The event brought in close to $5,000 for Greendale. Thank you to all of our donors and volunteers for helping us make our fall festival a success.
New Shift for Safety Patrol
At the beginning of the second nine weeks, a new crew of student safety patrol began working. These students, as did the first crew, demonstrate tremendous responsibiliy by being dependable, on-time, and carrying out their duties diligently.
Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week was celebrated from October 27-31. During Red Ribbon Week students participate in lessons that teach how to make good choices and be kind to others. Monday's theme was "Say No to Bullies and Drugs." Tuesday's theme was "Use Your Head - Don't Do Drugs." Wednesday's theme was "Too Bright to Be a Bully." and the whole school participated in a virtual assembly about kindness. Thursday's theme was "Give Drugs the Boot." Friday's theme was "Scare Away Bullies." Each day, students were encouraged to dress up according to the theme.
Vocabulary Parade
October 31 brought with it our annual Vocabulary Parade. Students and teachers dressed up to represent chosen vocabulary words. Students took turns parading their vocabulary words around the school to all the other grade levels. In addition to the parade, students had the opportunity to trick-or-treat at various stations throughout the school thanks to our PTO.
