Students Discover Local Innovation Through "Discover Manufacturing" Tours

Manufacturing has evolved into a dynamic, high-tech field with abundant local career opportunities. Thanks to the new Discover Manufacturing initiative, a program that bridges the gap between classroom learning and modern industry, two groups of HHS students experienced eye-opening tours of local companies: Digitrace and Transmatic. At Digitrace, a leader in Aerospace and Defense Machining, students observed highly automated facilities and met employees working with CNC and quality control. The tour emphasized precision and demonstrated career paths in manufacturing and technology right here in our community.

The second group toured Transmatic, specializing in precision deep draw metal fabrication. Students witnessed powerful machinery and spoke with skilled tradespeople about technical training and apprenticeships. The visit highlighted the practical applications of physics and design principles.

These invaluable experiences exposed students to the diverse, high-tech career options available locally. We thank Digitrace and Transmatic for their hospitality. Students interested in exploring these careers should visit the Counseling Office for information and future opportunities.

Information Specific to Grade

Seniors

Senior Packet -please read and refer to throughout the school year. The Senior Packet can be found here: Senior Packet

Local Scholarships - Periodically look at the Scholarships link on the Virtual HS Counseling Office. Scholarship deadlines vary. Some deadlines are approaching, while other scholarship applications are not due until early spring. Ask colleges about scholarships specific to their institutions and to the field of study you are planning to pursue. Once you are accepted to a college/university or trade school, there are scholarship opportunities for admitted students.

College & Trade School Applications & Deadlines: Colleges are still accepting applications! Several Michigan colleges and universities have waived application fees; however, some schools will charge an application fee now that October has ended. Make a list of application due dates so you can plan ahead and submit them on time. If a college/trade school requires recommendation letters, give time (at least a week or two) to the professionals from whom you request a recommendation letter. Also, give yourself ample time to write application essays.

Apply on college websites or through the Common App? If you are applying to numerous colleges/universities, consider creating an account on the Common App. There are 1000+ colleges and universities affiliated with this site, and it is a “one-stop shop” application. Complete it once, and apply to several institutions. Hint: Search the schools you are interested in first to make sure they are a part of the Common App. Check your college or trade school website to find out how each wants you to apply. Some colleges will have you apply on their website, while others want you to apply via Common App.

ACCEPTED! When a senior is informed of being accepted into a college, university, trade school, or military, please complete this ACCEPTED form so we can celebrate this accomplishment!

FAFSA - Students applying to 2-year and/or 4-year colleges and trade schools are encouraged to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be eligible for scholarships, grants, and federal aid. Most post-secondary schools participate with federal student aid programs, however, you can check with each school to be certain. Schools sometimes use the FAFSA information to determine eligibility for their own in-house scholarships and grants. Students and Families can obtain FAFSA ID now (this is the 1st Step), and then complete the 26-27 FAFSA form which is now open. Students are eligible for more opportunities if the FAFSA is completed sooner rather than later in the year. See your school counselor with questions. You can also refer to: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa

Juniors

Refer to the Junior Packet for information pertaining to 11th grade. Junior Packet

Tech Center for 2026-2027? Are you interested in applying to the Tech Center for next school year when you are a Senior? If so, complete the application form sent to your email on November 24th. Applications are due no later than 3:00pm on December 5th. (Please note: You must complete this form if you are hoping to attend the Tech Center for a second year as well.) See your school counselor with any questions.

Sophomores

The 10th grade packet is a great resource of information. Find it here: 10th grade Packet

Tech Center Program Tour! All sophomores visited the Allegan Tech Center on Thursday, November 20th. Students chose 3 programs to tour. If one is interested in applying to the Tech Center for next school year (you would attend as a Junior), visiting programs at the Tech Center is the first step. Students received an email with the application link (a Google Form) on November 24th to apply for the top two programs of their choice that they would like to enroll in for the 2026-2027 school year. Applications are due by 3:00pm on December 5th. See your school counselor with any questions.

Freshmen

Remember your school counselor is available to answer any questions and provide support. Use the Counseling Information Google Classroom to schedule an appointment with either Mr. Crook or Mrs. Hardy.

A great resource for information is the 9th Grade Packet, which can be found here: 9th grade Packet
