Sometimes February feels like it will last forever...
But time Marches on. 🥁
- Cold & Flu season is still among us. Please keep sick students at home and encourage frequent handwashing to protect others.
- Students should stay home until they are well enough to participate and are fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication. Once your student starts improving, please test for covid and send back to school
with a negative result ASAP!
- Washing your hands is easy, and it's the most effective way to prevent the spread of germs.
- Covid home test kits will continue to be given to students sent home with covid symptoms.
“Once a week, take a peek” We continue to see lice cases; please check your child’s hair weekly to prevent an outbreak in your home.
❤February is heart month! Remember to drink water, eat well, get sleep, and exercise❣️

Social Worker Corner
2-1-1 Helpline now available!
Chicago and suburban Cook County residents now have access to a local 2-1-1 service—changing the landscape for how we meet the needs of our neighbors. 2-1-1 is a free, 24/7/365 service that connects them to essential health and social service support and information during times of non-emergency crisis and for everyday needs.
Important for residents:
Call 9-1-1 for emergencies.
Call 3-1-1 or call your city or village office for municipal or local government services if 3-1-1 is not available in your community.
Call 9-8-8 for the suicide and crisis lifeline.

Graves Lunch Menu
We've noticed that a few students have not been eating because they don't like
the food that is being served in the cafeteria.
Please review this months lunch menu with your child to make sure they know what is being served.
As a reminder, students should avoid bringing unhealthy food items to school for lunch.
We've noticed some students only eat their bag of chips and not their lunch.

🥳 PBIS: Glow Dance Party 🥳
Our Glow Dance Party was such a great success!
Students and Staff had a great time.
Old Town School of Folk Music
On Friday, Feb. 17, all of SD104’s 2nd grade classes went on a field trip to the Old Town School of Folk Music. They saw a performance by the Puerto Rican group, La Escuelita Bombera de Corazón. Our students learned about Africa’s influence on the music and culture of Puerto Rico. They also learned about ancestors, healing, and the strength of our heritage. Our students had a blast singing and dancing along with the musicians!
La Escuelita Bombera de Corazón is a collective of Bomba practitioners committed to the preservation of Bomba - Puerto Rico’s oldest surviving music and dance form created by the island’s African descendants. La Escuelita Bombera De Corazón was founded by Ivelisse Díaz out of her commitment to Black and Indigenous art education and her first-hand experiences of Bomba’s revolutionary power. www.bomberadecorazon.com
Did you know?
- The first open-heart surgery occurred in 1893. It was performed by Daniel Hale Williams, who was one of the few black cardiologists in the United States at the time.
The first implantable pacemaker was used in 1958. Arne Larsson, who received the pacemaker, lived longer than the surgeon who implanted it. Larsson died at 86 of a disease that was unrelated to his heart.
The youngest person to receive heart surgery was only a minute old. She had a heart defect that many babies don’t survive. Her surgery was successful, but she’ll eventually need a heart transplant.
The earliest known case of heart disease was identified in the remains of a 3,500-year-old Egyptian mummy.
