Elementary Report Cards
Good Morning Parents and Guardians,
We are happy to share an update about student report cards that you will notice on the first trimester card this year.
During the 2021-2022 school year, mathematics and English Language Arts curriculum committees met to identify priority standards for District 95 from kindergarten through twelfth grade. This was a review of each content’s standards. In addition, for each priority standard that was identified, proficiency scales were created to define what constitutes mastery of the standard. As a result, we have updated the report card to reflect those changes.
The marks "Proficient," "Developing," and "Emerging'' align with the descriptors in the proficiency and will be used to report student progress in grades K through 3. For grades 4 and 5, letter grades will still be assigned. Also note that the scales, "Proficient," "Developing," and "Emerging'' will be used in social-emotional learning reporting.
Elementary Lanyards
Starting soon, you will see a change in your child’s lanyard expectations. We are shifting from students wearing lanyards home and bringing them back each day to students keeping their lanyard at school each night. In addition to their in school lanyard, students will also have a student ID attached to their backpack. Our goal with this shift is to reduce the number of elementary students who are losing their lanyards during the home to school transitions, while still maintaining school safety with students having a school ID at all times.
Elementary School Conferences
Parent teacher conferences for Spencer Loomis will be held on Thursday, November 10th from 1pm to 7pm and on Monday, November 21st from 4pm to 7pm. We are excited to welcome you to Spencer Loomis and look forward to meeting in-person. While it is preferable to conference with our parents in person, a virtual option remains available.
- Parents and Guardians wishing to utilize the remote option should sign up for time via Sign-Up Genius and then email the classroom teacher to request that your conference be held via Zoom. Links will be provided by the teacher.
- Parents and Guardians who elect to meet in-person should sign up via the class Sign-Up Genius and will need to arrive at the meeting at least 5 minutes prior to the time the meeting is scheduled.
Please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher should you have any questions or concerns regarding the scheduling of parent/teacher conferences.
Kids Heart Challenge
We are SO excited to partner with the American Heart Association and start our Kids Heart Challenge program. Kids Heart Challenge helps students develop ways to keep their whole hearts happy and healthy for their whole lives AND spreads the mission and the message of the AHA
Kids Heart Challenge officially starts November 3rd! Register below and take one of our heart healthy challenges. Will your student choose to Be Kind, or to Move More to keep their heart healthy? Sign up HERE and as soon as you do, receive your torch shaped wristband to light the way to healthy hearts!
Candy for First Responders/Troops
Lake Zurich High School’s National Honors Society is holding a Halloween candy drive November 1st through November 4th at Spencer Loomis and other schools in our district! Bring in extra candy from trick or treating to donate to front line workers, military, veterans, and others! Put the candy in boxes found in our Spencer Loomis vestibule!
Attendance Reminder
In anticipation of winter and spring breaks (common times for families to take vacations together), we wanted to send a few reminders regarding school attendance. Students who are absent from school for 15 consecutive days will be dropped on the 16th day due to non-consecutive missed days of school (per Illinois School Code). Families may re-enroll at any time upon their return to the District/once their students’ ability to attend school in-person changes.
We highly value in-person learning, and know that our students perform best when they have direct access to classroom instruction and their teachers. Please plan family trips accordingly in order to avoid your student(s) being dropped from attendance, and to ensure maximum access to in-person learning.
Health Update
As we enter another cold and flu season, please continue to monitor your student for changes in health. The health offices have noticed an increase in Influenza A cases in recent weeks, and we want to ensure that we are keeping our school communities healthy and safe. Please be reminded that students should stay home if they are not feeling well.
October Student of the Month
Each month District 95 asks every building to select a student who represents our District Values of collaboration, continuous improvement, equity, high expectations, integrity, perseverance, and respect. For the month of October, Spencer Loomis chose 4th Grader, Vince M.
The Specials Teachers at Spencer Loomis are delighted to select Vince for our October Student of the Month. Vince always has a friendly greeting for the adults and students he encounters. His permanent smile, positive attitude, and cheerful disposition are contagious and make Vince a student who gets along well with his peers to collaborate on projects in the Literacy and Innovation Hub and achieve team goals in P.E. His excitement for learning has helped him develop great habits to promote growth in all of his specials classes. Vince is self-motivated, has high expectations for himself, and perseveres to reach his personal excellence in art, library, music and P.E. We are very proud of the hard working, kind student Vince displays in all of our classes. Congratulations Vince!
