Counselor's Corner
Hello Families,
We are approaching the 4th week of school, and getting students back into a consistent routine can take some time. Middle school students are balancing academics, friendships, activities, responsibilities, and a growing need for independence.Below are some tips for providing structure and support at home that can make the transition smoother!
Tip #1: Reestablish a consistent sleep schedule. Encourage students to return to regular bedtimes and wake-up times. Getting enough sleep can make a big difference in a student’s mood, focus, and ability to manage the demands of the school day.
Tip #2: Create a simple morning and evening routine. Having a predictable routine can help reduce stress and last-minute rushing. Packing backpacks, choosing clothes, and preparing lunches the night before can make mornings easier.
Tip #3: Set aside time for schoolwork. Help your student establish a regular time and place for homework and studying. Encourage them to use a planner or other organizational tool to keep track of assignments and activities.
Tip #4: Build in time to recharge. Students need downtime, too! Make space for hobbies, exercise, family time, and activities they enjoy.
Tip #5: Be patient with the transition. It is normal for students to feel tired, overwhelmed, or out of sync during the first few weeks. Encourage them, celebrate small successes, and remind them that routines take time to become habits.
Remind your student that they don't have to have everything figured out right away. Starting a new school year is a process, and there are adults at school who are here to help. If your student needs support with getting back into a routine, I am happy to help!
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Pringle
Hola familias:
Mrs. Pringle
