LFHS December Updates
Lake Fenton Families,
Last year at this time, we selected the word hopeful for students and staff as we felt a strong sense of hope for the 2021 year. With the recent tragedy our Oxford neighbors have suffered, it can be hard for us to feel a sense of hope in a setting shrouded with fear and chaos. We feel a sense of collective loss and have offered our support and love to those families suffering. Many of our parents have contributed to the community help efforts being organized for the students and staff of Oxford Schools. I thank you all for sharing the true Blue Devil Spirit in extending your help in these efforts. Our community rallies when others are in need and for that I am grateful.
Additionally, it is important that we take the time to let our own students know that they are safe. They need to hear and know that administration, central office and the Genesee County Sheriff Department are all doing what needs to be done to make sure that they are not in danger. We have run state required safety drills this year and continue to follow all protocols and procedures for any information we receive. We encourage you to talk with your student about their own social media presence and ask them not to spread disinformation. On the other hand, we also want them to speak up and share information that needs to be passed along for us to investigate. I have included the State of Michigan tip line OKAY2SAY below, but students are always welcome to come directly to me or any school official. With all of this in our midst, now is a great time for finding our way back to the basics and away from our phones and social media. Take a family hike in the wintery woods, watch a holiday movie together, bake cookies or find other ways to connect with your teen that allows them time to decompress and reconnect with you and loved ones. Share your ideas! We all need this time to spread joy more than ever.
While the recent state of schools has certainly left an indelible mark on all of us, I still want to take a moment to be grateful for the many opportunities we have been given this year. All students were given the opportunity to come back to in-person learning and we did not have a single shut down this year. All sports were open to spectators and we all watched our fall sports dominate their fields. We were able to have our first Homecoming parade and dance since the pandemic and had a wonderful time bringing our community together in true Blue Devil Spirit. We just finished our first Jinglefest weekend in two years and cheered on our band and local community businesses. We have stayed connected and found new ways to engage our students both in and out of the classroom. We still have much to be grateful for.
As we inch closer to winter break, please find moments of gratitude and joy for your students to share. They need our steady presence and our positivity in their world more than ever before. I thank you for your continued support and am grateful to be part of the Lake Fenton School Community.

WHAT I NEED TO KNOW
- All Juniors will participate in our practice SAT test on Thursday, December 9th held in the gymnasium. This sample test is taken directly from College Board and allows students the ability to practice the rigor and stamina needed for the state required SAT test in the spring. Students will be able to score their tests and view correct answers. An SAT prep online course will be made available to all Juniors in the new year to help them further prepare for the SAT test given in April 2022. This is a great opportunity for students to prepare ahead of time.
- Our Giving Tree charity efforts have begun and students have the ability to participate in multiple ways to provide members of our school community much needed items during the holiday season. Students will have the chance to win a pizza party for their tutorial class, win an LF goody basket, or even throw a pie in the face of their favorite teachers and staff.
- BE IN THE KNOW! Sign up for our SMS Text Messaging feature! You can opt in or out at any time. This will give you important reminders throughout the year.
