Chestnut Ridge Students Explore Fairness, Integrity and Perseverance

Chestnut Ridge seventh graders read and annotated the short story“The Scholarship Jacket,” examining whether hard work and perseverance can overcome unfairness. Students shared personal experiences and reflected on courage, integrity and standing up for what’s right, ultimately agreeing that confronting injustice is always worthwhile—even when success isn’t guaranteed. Learn more about this lesson.

The East Ramapo Central School District continues to work toward improving the operations of its transportation department. The district is collaborating with an outside consulting group to redesign and restructure the department with the goal of streamlining processes and increasing efficiency. We are making steady progress in moving the department forward in a positive direction. The District has received positive feedback from several transportation contractors regarding recent dealings with the Transportation Department.

Families who need assistance with transportation issues are encouraged to first contact their child’s principal. If the matter remains unresolved, they may then reach out directly to the Transportation Department at 845-577-6490.

SAFETY & SECURITY SAFETY & SECURITY

The safety of our students and staff is always a top priority at ERCSD. Security personnel are stationed in every school, with school resource officers assigned to both high schools, and school officials are trained to respond quickly and appropriately in any emergency. To strengthen our practices, we hired a consultant to conduct a districtwide audit of our security policies and procedures, including all district- and building-level safety plans. The fieldwork for this audit is nearly complete, and once finalized, the consultant will prepare a detailed report with recommendations to further enhance safety practices across the district.

We are also partnering with Putnam | Northern Westchester BOCES to provide updated training for building-level security personnel and principals on emergency and lockdown drills. Families and staff are encouraged to review New York state’s S.H.E.L.L. emergency response terms; more information is available on our Safety & Security page on the district website.

The East Ramapo Central School District has established protocols for deciding whether to close or delay school or cancel programs due to inclement weather or other emergencies. For information about notifications regarding emergency closings, visit the Emergency Closings page of the district website.
