Spirit Rock Spirit Rock

We have had many questions about our spirit rock up front. The spirit rock is located in front of the school near the flag pole. The spirit rock can be painted to celebrate birthdays, milestones, achievements, thank a teacher/staff or other appropriate messages.

For full information on the spirit rock and get signed up, click here.

Free Tree Registration Free Tree Registration

Osprey families, it's time to register for free trees! In honor of Earth Day, Topsail Annandale is partnering with Neighborhood Forest to offer our students a free tree. All you need to do is register at the link below. The trees will be delivered to our school on (or around) Earth Day. The trees will be sent home with the students for you to plant. This is our third year partnering with Neighborhood Forest, and the great tree giveaway has always been a success. The type of trees we will receive will be announced in March. Registration closes on March 15th, so register today!

Month of the Military Child Month of the Military Child

Every year our military kids club does purple starts for all of our military students to be celebrated in the front of the school. If you would like to have a start for your child the must be registered in OMKC. ALL MILITARY KIDS register for the club in their school through our website: https://operationmilitarykidsclubs.com/. There is no cost to register, and no commitment to ever come to a club. It does not commit you to anything. This just allows us to have a way to know your child is a military child and we don't want any to be left out. Military Kids registered by March 1st, will have a star with their name on it.

Kindergarten Registration Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration for the 25-26 school year will open up on March 1st. Registration will be online this year. More information coming soon.

Nurse Updates Nurse Updates

Flu season is upon us and I wanted to give you a few reminders to help prevent continuous passing of illnesses in the classrooms. Pender County does encourage students to be present in school, but not at the expense of the students health or the health of others in the classroom.

Please, if your student has a fever of 100.4 or greater they need to stay home until fever free without medication for 24 hours. If you have a note from a MD, they need to stay at home until the release date set by the physician. In addition, we recommend staying home for 24 hours after vomiting and/or diarrhea.

We are doing our best to keep the classrooms clean, by scrubbing down all the things. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask Nurse Vicki.

STEM STEM

As you know, we added an additional specials class this year, STEM. Students are absolutely loving it. Our PTA major fundraising project this year is to furnish and get equipment for the room. We have lots of the new furniture installed, and we are waiting on a few pieces to finish up the installation.

We are looking to get some support for the consumables used for all the experiments and projects worked on in class. Here is our STEM teacher's wish list for those who would like to support the program:

Bus Riders Bus Riders

As we enter the new year we wanted to highlight some important reminders of our BUS RIDER EXPECTATIONS. Please review and talk to your bus rider about following the rules and how they can make good choices.

Reminder:

-K-2nd grade riders MUST have a responsible adult at the bus stop or get off with an older sibling in order for the student to exit the bus.

-You must be at your stop 10 minutes PRIOR to the bus arrival.

-Have your child stand back from the road until the bus makes a complete stop. At no point should a child run towards a moving bus.

-Your child MUST remain seated, facing forward, and be respectful for the duration of the bus ride.

For your convenience you can download Here Comes the Bus on your smartphone, tablet, or computer to view the real-time location of your child's school bus.

Visit http://www.herecomesthebus.com for more information.

Thank you for your cooperation! Safety is our number one priority when transporting your child to and from school.

Transportation Changes Transportation Changes

If your student has a change in transportation that is different then then normal, please take the following steps:

  • Send in writing (handwritten note, email, rooms message) to your child's teaching
  • If you do not get a response by 12 pm the day the change is needed, please call the front office. We will still ask you to send it in writing, but we will be sure the teacher gets the information
  • No student can ride a bus other then the bus they are assigned to
  • No student can ride a bus with a friend unless they are assigned to that bus

Attendance Attendance

In order to streamline attendance, this year we will be receiving attendance excuse notes electronically, not paper copies.

All excuse notes should be sent to tae_attendance@pender.k12.nc.us

This includes doctors notes, parent notes, etc. This allows us to make sure all excuse notes get to where they need to be. It also allows families to have documentation that they sent in their notes instead of things getting lost.

It is still best practice to communicate with the teacher in the event of the absence to ensure students have all necessary make up work, but you do not need to give the teacher the excuse note.

Please review Board Policy 4400 for the full attendance policy and to ensure you are up to date on what constitutes and excused absence. It can be found here:
