Start at the Core - Core Values 2023-2024
Let's Star at the Core!
Why Character Values Matter
Character values play a crucial role in shaping our school's overall environment and culture. They guide our interactions, influence our decisions, and help us create a supportive and inclusive community where every student can thrive. By focusing on these values, we aim to equip our students with the essential life skills to navigate challenges, build meaningful relationships, and contribute positively to society.
Our Core Values for 2023-2024
- Trustworthiness: Trustworthiness is the foundation of any healthy relationship. We encourage our students to be honest, reliable, and dependable in all their actions. We help students build strong bonds with their peers and teachers by fostering an environment where trust is paramount.
- Respect: Respect is about valuing others and treating everyone with kindness and consideration. At Leeland, we promote respect through daily interactions and teach students the importance of acknowledging diverse perspectives and backgrounds. Respectful behavior creates a welcoming and inclusive school atmosphere.
- Fairness: Fairness involves making decisions that are just and equitable. We teach our students to consider their actions' impact on others and strive for fairness in their interactions. Students learn to appreciate the importance of justice and equality by understanding and practicing fairness.
- Perseverance: Perseverance is the ability to stay committed and keep trying, even when faced with difficulties. We encourage our students to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and to persist in their efforts to achieve their goals. Perseverance helps students develop resilience and a strong work ethic.
How We Reinforce These Values
To ensure these values are deeply ingrained in our school culture, we have integrated them into various aspects of our daily routines and communications:
Posters Throughout the Building: Visual reminders of our core values are displayed throughout the school to keep these principles in mind for everyone.
Morning Second Step Lessons: Our morning lessons focus on these values, helping students understand and apply them daily.
Weekly Staff Newsletter: Staff receive regular updates and practical tips on how to model and reinforce these values.
Imagine Board Meetings: Our leadership team discusses these values to ensure a unified approach to promoting them.
Instructional Focus: Establish Procedures, Routines & Rules
