Wiggin Street Parent Update
February 7, 2025
Better Together
Dear families,
What a great week to come back to Wiggin Street! I can not thank Mrs. Taylor, Assistant Principal, for filling in while I had surgery. She has also been my right hand man, literally, this week as I returned and will continue to help periodically over the next 2 weeks. Also, I want to thank all of the Wiggin Street teachers for continuing to be teacher leaders in the building and thinking of things that needed done in my absence. I am reminded again at how lucky I am to be Principal in an amazing building with amazing staff, students, and community!
This week has been fun-filled as students participated in our Read-a-thon. A special thanks goes out to Ms. Waugh for all her extra efforts and planning to make this event possible. We are able to do so much more due to our staff's and students' efforts benefitting from the donations. If you have not heard, Sharx Design which is owned and operated by Rod and Lori Zolman, have graciously offered to sell the Read-a-thon shirts to the public donating back $11.50 for every shirt sold. Please see the links below to order.
We also had our 10th year of participating in the Global School Play Day this week. The best thing about this day is the multi-age playing. It was nice to see siblings choosing the go to the same room to play with each other!
Enjoy all of the pictures in this update! I couldn't stop sharing!
Have a great weekend,
Christy Grandstaff
Read-a-thon T-shirt Fundraiser Sale
Our students and staff all received one of these beautiful Wiggin Street literary shirts from our PTO this week to kick off our Read-a-thon. Now, Sharx Design is offering them to the public as a fundraiser to help support the school Read-a-thon! We are so greatful for their generosity. Below is the Facebook post by SharxDesign which can also be found on our Wiggin Street School Facebook page.
Sharx Design Proudly Supports Wiggin Street Elementary's Read-a-thon!
A huge THANK YOU to Ms. Waugh from Wiggin Street Elementary for reaching out to us about designing shirts for their Read-a-thon, which is now underway! At first, we thought we'd be making just a few shirts for select students. But when Ms. Waugh shared the design with the PTO group, Friends of Wiggin Street, everyone agreed: every student deserves one! That small order turned into a huge project—and we couldn’t be more thrilled.
Now, every student and teacher will have their own shirt to showcase their school pride, celebrate the strong ties with the community, and represent the historic little school in Gambier (yes, built in 1904 and consistently ranking as one of the top schools in our region and state).
Want to join in the Wiggin Street spirit? You can get your own Read-a-thon shirt too! Available in Royal Blue Heather, Denim Blue Heather, Ivy Green Heather, Red Heather, Dark Grey Heather, Dark Graphite Heather, and Heathered Berry. Youth sizes are available in the same colors except for Ivy Green and Heathered Berry.
Youth and Adult sizes are $20, and 2X and 3X are $22.
Order deadline: February 14th
Shirts will be delivered to the school on February 24th
Pick-up options: Shirts can be picked up with Lori in the kindergarten room after school on Monday, February 24th, or arrangements can be made to send them home with your student.
Order your shirts here:
• Youth sizes: https://square.link/u/a9XR5bk6
• Adult sizes: https://square.link/u/GfvRcXr0
All shirts are printed on a soft tri-blend tee that holds its shape and is perfect for wash-and-wear comfort. Proceeds go to the Wiggin Street Elementary Library Fund to put even more great books in the hands of our little readers!
So, when you see one of these bright, enthusiastic "Wiggin Street Kids" wearing their new Read-a-thon shirt, give them a shout-out of encouragement. And if you’re able, support their Read-a-thon efforts financially—it goes a long way in nurturing the love of reading and community spirit.

Read-A-Thon
We have wrapped up our week full of Read-A-Thon activities. Staff and students have enjoyed all of the fun activities we have had this week.
Now that the week is over, students are coming home with their minutes tallied up, and will take the weekend to collect their pledges. Please send the envelopes back to school on Monday. We will collect them all week, but would like them as early as possible to be able to hand out prizes on Tuesday the 18th. The sooner, the better!

Important Reminders
Please make sure that all students have a change of clothing in their backpacks. The school does not have enough clothing for the amount of students who have accidents or get wet or muddy on the playground
Students may not wear fake nails to school any more. We have noticed that these have been becoming a major distraction during learning, as well as a mess, as students pick them off and leave them around the room.
Wes Molebash visit
Coming February 27th
Cartoonist, Wes Molebash, will be visiting our students on February 27th and then staying for our Literacy Night event from 5:30-7:00 pm. This will be a family event that you won't want to miss! Pre-order forms will be sent home with report cards, or you can find it here.
Paragraphs will be available at Wiggin Street the night of the event for purchases.
Winter Weather
Winter Weather
Please remember that students will go outside on days where the temperature with wind chill accounted for is 20°f and above. Be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather each day. Coats, hats, and gloves are necessary at this time of the year. Boots are required for playing in the snow. If you need assistance with winter outerwear for your child, please contact our school, and we will happily find warm clothes for them.
