It's a Great Week to be a Cavalier!😉

Happy Sunday Cavalier Families!

It’s hard to believe we’ve arrived at the final week of the school year! As we wrap up, I want to thank you for your partnership, support, and trust throughout this year. It has been a privilege to watch your students grow, achieve, and make lasting memories.

Here are a few important reminders for this final week:

  • Benchmark Testing will take place Monday through Wednesday. Please help ensure your child is well-rested and on time each day so they can do their best.

  • On Thursday, we’ll celebrate the end of the year with classroom parties and an early release day. Parties will take place through Cav Connection and are scheduled for the end of the day (around 12:20PM). Be sure to check with your student to see if there is anything they signed up to bring.

  • Our 8th Grade Celebration will be held on Thursday at 9:00 AM. (See flyer below) We look forward to honoring our students as they prepare for this exciting next step in their journey.

As we enjoy these final days, we continue to emphasize the importance of integrity—doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. It’s a value we’ve worked to instill all year, and one that will serve our students well beyond the classroom.

We will continue to follow the no backpack policy for the rest of the year. Students who bring bags will need to surrender them at the door and they will need to be picked up by a parent. Athletes will be dropping their bags off at the athletic hallway door (coaches will brief them on the expectations) and music students will continue to drop instruments off at the band hall or orchestra portable. All bags that are dropped off will be searched. Students must have their phones in YONDR pouches. If students do not have their phones secured in their YONDR pouch, the phone will need to picked up by an adult. We have issued every student a YONDR pouch and therefore, they should be using them. Please help your student find their pouch if they have misplaced it. The graphic below explains the policy for bags.

YONDR pouches will be collected on May 21st. We will collect them throughout the day during Science classes. The pouch must have the bar code in order for your student to get credit for turning it in. If your student does not have their pouch to turn in on that date, if the pouch is damaged, or if they do not have a bar code on it, they will receive a fine for $25.50.

Thank you again for a wonderful school year. We are proud of all our students and grateful for the opportunity to serve your families. Wishing you a safe, restful, and Cav-tastic summer!

Student and Staff Safety are our #1 priority! Student and Staff Safety are our #1 priority!

We’re down to the final 9 days of school! As we wrap up the year, we need your support in reminding students that expectations remain high until the very last day. It’s important that they continue to follow all school policies and procedures and show respect for staff, classmates, and our learning environment.

It is very important that we keep safety our #1 priority. In order to do this, we need students to do a few things:

  • Students need to wear their IDs every day. The ID helps every adult know that the student belongs in the building.
  • Each day, every period, students need to go from point A to point B. There should be no horseplay or lingering in the hallways.
  • Students will not be allowed to leave the classroom unless they are called by an office or have a restroom emergency. Students need to remain in class, participating in the learning.
  • The restrooms are for taking care of bodily functions. They are not for hanging out with friends or horseplaying. Students are not to loiter in the restrooms during the day.
  • Students must continue to follow lunch procedures. They should use their hand signals to let the adults know what they need while in the cafeteria. They also are not to get up without permission from an adult. We have over 250 students in each lunch. Our systems are in place to help to get them all fed and keep them safe during the 35 minutes that they are in the cafeteria.
  • Students are not to linger on campus after school. Students who walk or are car-riders are released at 3:30PM and should head home immediately.

We appreciate your support in these matters!

Counselors' Corner Counselors' Corner

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize the importance of emotional and psychological well-being for individuals and families. Mental health impacts how we think, feel, and act—especially during stressful times. For parents, supporting their family's mental health helps build strong, resilient children who can better manage emotions and relationships. Early awareness and support can prevent more serious issues down the road. Prioritizing mental health creates a positive, safe environment where families can thrive together.

Ways parents can support their family's mental health:

  • Create open spaces for kids to talk about feelings without judgment

  • Stick to consistent routines for structure and security

  • Practice mindfulness or relaxation techniques as a family

  • Limit screen time and encourage outdoor play or exercise

  • Model healthy coping skills and self-care habits

Helpful mental health resources:

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline – Call or text 988 for 24/7 free, confidential support

  • National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) – nami.org offers education, support groups, and resources

  • MentalHealth.gov – Information and tools for families and individuals

  • Child Mind Institute – childmind.org provides guidance specifically for children's mental health

  • Local school counselors and pediatricians – Trusted first points of contact for concerns or referrals. If you ever have questions about mental health resources, please reach out to any of our counselors for support & community resources/referrals.
