Dear District 67 Parents and Guardians:
Earlier this school year, we invited members of our school community to participate in the District 67 Technology Working Group—an initiative designed to foster meaningful discussion about the role of technology in K-8 education. The group met for the first time in November and again in February, focusing on supporting families in managing district-provided technology at home. We also discussed similar topics with the District 67 Curriculum Coordinating Committee (CCC).
New Tools and Shifts in Practice
As a direct result of this collaborative work, we’re making a few important changes that reflect both parent feedback and our commitment to a balanced approach to technology:
iPads Will Stay at School Over the Summer
District-provided iPads will not be sent home with students this summer. This change supports a much-needed break from screens and encourages unplugged summer activities and learning.
For K- 4 Students: iPads Will Remain at School During the 2025–26 School Year
Starting next school year, iPads will stay at school most of the time. This shift is designed to help create clearer boundaries between school and home life, reduce screen time outside school hours, and simplify device management for families.
Securly Parent Coming Next Year
This spring, we piloted Securly Parent, a tool that gives families more visibility over their child’s iPad use outside school. Thanks to overwhelmingly positive feedback from pilot participants, we will roll out Securly Parent districtwide for the 2025–26 school year. If you think your family would benefit from access to this system immediately, you can fill out the following form to request access for this school year.
We’re grateful to the District 67 Technology Working Group and the CCC for helping us think carefully and intentionally about how we support students and families in navigating digital life. I look forward to continuing our collaboration.
If you have any questions about these updates, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
