PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Friday, October 17th
We definitely experienced a change in the weather this week, and with it, our lost and found has quadrupled. Please be sure to have your child come and take a look to see if they can find anything that belongs to them! Mrs. Dunning reunites anything with a name on it with its owner so please remember to label coats, jackets and hoodies as we head into the colder months.
Our sign up for Parent Teacher conferences has now closed. If you were not able to schedule an appointment time or your plans need to change, please contact Mrs. Hamilton or Mrs. Dunning in the office and they will be happy to help you.
Please remember that school will NOT be in session on Thursday, October 23rd and Friday, October 24th while conferences are taking place.
Please remember that Picture Retake Day is on Tuesday, October 21st.
We will have our Bus Evacuation Drill on Wednesday, October 22nd.
I hope our Kindergarten families enjoyed the Kindergarten Family Night last night! Thank you to our PTA for organizing this for our newest Panthers! It was fun to see so many of you there.
Yesterday, our 3rd-5th graders had a wonderful visit from Academy Award winning illustrator and author, Alan Barillaro. Thank you to one of our Patton parents, Mrs. Julie Blandford, and to our LMC Director, Mrs. Hemmer, for facilitating and organizing this wonderful event for our Panthers!
Enjoy the weekend!

STUDENT SAFETY AND ICE-RELATED CONCERNS (NEW POST!)
Student safety remains a top priority in District 25. All schools are safe and welcoming for every student and family, with district procedures in place to support students’ safety and learning in the event of any ICE-related incident. The district will continue to share information with families to reinforce our commitment to keeping students safe.

CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE PREVENTION LESSONS (NEW POST!)
Child Sexual Abuse Prevention lessons will begin soon at Patton. Illinois Public Act 097-1147, requires public schools to provide child sexual abuse prevention education for children in prekindergarten through twelfth grades. Age-appropriate instruction helps students recognize unsafe situations, keep themselves safe, and understand how to respond to unsafe situations. School social workers work with each grade level to provide age-appropriate information on topics such as safe versus unsafe touching, the touching rule, secrets, and reporting.
The following link includes more information, including presentations and opt-out forms:
If you choose to opt your child out of the presentation, please share the form with Ellie Chin (echin@sd25.org) and Barb Donahue (bdonahue@sd25.org).
VETERAN'S DAY (NEW POST!)
We would love to honor and recognize all Veterans connected to the Patton community, even if they can't be with us in person, by including their photo and information in a display that will be in the Patton commons throughout the month of November. Please download and complete this page and include a photo or have your child draw a picture if you would like to have a special Veteran recognized at Patton. Copies of this will be available in the office if you do not have access to a printer. Please return these to the school office by November 3rd.
We will post these at Patton throughout the month of November to recognize and honor these Veterans for their service and will celebrate them at our Veteran's Assembly on Tuesday, November 11th.
The students and staff at Patton would like to invite any veterans or active service members that are immediate family members of our students to join us at our Veteran’s Day assembly on Tuesday, November 11th at 11am. We are very grateful for your service and would love to honor and recognize you as we celebrate Veterans Day together.
Please complete this google form if someone is a Veteran or active service member in your immediate family who would like to attend our Veterans Day assembly. The deadline to RSVP is Sunday, November 2nd.
PTA REFLECTIONS 25-26: I BELONG (NEW POST!)
Calling all Patton Panthers to participate in this year's Reflections program. Students of all grades and abilities can create works of art reflecting upon this year's theme: “I Belong.”
Students can submit their completed works of art in one (or more) of the art categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts. Students must individually submit artwork. Here are some ideas for how students can incorporate the theme for each category. Additionally, please carefully read through these specific PTA reflections rules and FAQs before submitting the final artwork.
Projects are due at the Patton Office on November 20th. Students are welcome to submit more than one project. Our Patton PTA proudly participates in the National PTA Reflections program, which encourages students to express themselves through the arts. Projects are completed at home. Last year, we had twenty talented students submit their works of art, and it was truly inspiring.
Please see this link to help think about the theme. Here is the link to the student entry form.
We look forward to receiving the wonderful entries from your student(s). Thank you again for your ongoing support.
All projects must be submitted to Patton’s main office by the end of school day on Thursday, November 20th.
Feel free to reach out to Tina Shah (tinashah1@gmail.com) with any questions!
PATTON SPIRIT SQUAD - 4th GRADE (NEW POST!)
HALLOWEEN INFORMATION (NEW POST!)
October certainly seems to be going by in a flash and Halloween will be here before we know it! This is always a very fun day at Patton!
You should have received an email on Thursday with lots of information about the day! Please do take the time to read it and familiarize yourself with the information. Next week you will receive a form that will need to be filled out to let us know if your child/ren will be going home for lunch to get changed or if they will be staying at school. We do ask that everyone fills out this form to ensure that we know what each student is doing on Halloween.
Students that go home for lunch should return by 1:10pm to ensure they are in their classrooms by the time the bell rings.
At around 1:45 pm we will begin our annual Halloween parade around the neighborhood (see image to see our route). Parents are welcome to come and stand along the parade route to watch the students go by! Please know that the parade will be cancelled in the case of inclement weather.
Classroom parties will then take place following the parade and school will finish at the regular time of 3:35pm.
A MESSAGE FROM THE SOCIAL WORKER (2nd POST!)
As the seasons change and the weather gets a bit chillier, please know that we have a selection of coats/hats/gloves etc, available for families in need. Please reach out to Barb Donahue, our school social worker's confidential email, bdonahue@sd25.org for more information or to request assistance.
Additionally, Barb Donahue has access to other community resources which might be helpful to your family - food pantries, holiday assistance, etc. Please reach out and she will be more than happy to help you!
SAFETY ON SCHOOL PROPERTY (FINAL POST!)
The nice weather means lots of bicycles, scooters and other wheeled friends coming and going to school! The Parent/Student Handbook includes information about biking to and from school. Please read the following excerpt from page 40.
The District encourages bicycle safety and recommends that safe-biking procedures be discussed with your student.
• Ride with traffic – on the right side of the street
• Ride single file – close to the curb
• Do not cut in and out among parked cars
• Do not carry passengers
• Wear a bicycle helmet
• Do not ride on school grounds. When you arrive on the school grounds, walk your bicycle to the proper bicycle rack
• Park your bicycle in the bicycle rack, using an appropriate lock
If a student fails to comply with these rules, the District may decide not to permit them to bring a bicycle onto school property.
Anyone arriving at school with a bike or scooter must walk it to the bike racks in the morning. After school, students must walk bikes, scooters, etc. off school grounds. This includes walking them on the sidewalk around the school and across the school's crosswalks as well.
As a reminder, there is no supervision on the blacktop until 8:50am. Students should not be dropped off before this time. When dropping students off at school, please use the car line or park in the parking lot and walk them over to the blacktop.
We appreciate everyone's cooperation in keeping our community safe.
