A Note from Mrs. Pitts
Dear RES Families,
Wellness Week is NEXT week. Below is a link to the details of Wellness Week so you can start preparing!
Important Quick Tips:
1. Wellness Week will consist of a DAILY home challenge and a school challenge by THEME.
2. Students will be asked to track the completion of one school and home challenge each day (see below).
We are asking students to recognize one aspect of wellness each day but for families to join us in this effort!
Speaking of wellness...RES raised $2,550.82 for the Kids Heart Challenge this year! Top fundraisers were Alma and Emma!
THANK YOU for your support,
Warmly,
Michelle Pitts
IMPORTANT FORM IN POWERSCHOOL!
At times during the school year, teachers may use audio or video recordings as part of classroom instruction. Recordings may support instructional activities such as presentations, project-based learning, performances, simulations, classroom discussions, or student demonstrations of learning. Recordings may also be used by teachers to review student work, support assessment, and reflect on instructional practices.
Occasionally, recordings may be shared within the school or SAU 50 community to celebrate student learning and showcase instructional practices. Any such sharing would be limited to educational purposes.
In accordance with current legal guidance, schools must obtain written parental consent before audio or video recording students for instructional purposes.
Please visit the Forms section in PowerSchool and complete the "Video Consent form".
Thank you for supporting our efforts to provide engaging learning experiences for students.
Placement 2025-2026
It is actually that time, thinking about placement for the 2026-2027 school year! Based on the small community that we have at RES, sometimes with only two options for class placements, we cannot honor any requests. HOWEVER, if you have an extenuating circumstance that is truly unique and should be considered, please email Michelle Pitts (mpitts@sau50.org). This information will be considered, but due to many factors, may not be possible. After class placement for 2026-2027 is sent to students, we know that we can work through any potential challenges that were not originally anticipated because we value teamwork, especially between home and school.
*ALL EMAILS MUST BE SENT BY APRIL 17. There cannot be any exceptions as we will start the process right after break!
Below are some factors to consider:
-We only consider information from this current year as we may not be privy to or have information about particular relationships between students, etc. from previous years.
-Please do not assume that incidents between certain children will be recalled during the placement process as this is a challenge when so many factors are being considered.
-It is important to understand that anything written will be shared with teachers after the Principal has read them.
-REQUESTS FOR SPECIFIC TEACHERS CANNOT BE HONORED. The process of placing students is multifaceted, rendering it impossible to honor these requests.
-Please understand that the Rye Elementary staff cannot take calls or discuss placement regarding specific placement requests. To do so would compromise the hard work of all involved.
Anything you want to share that you think will be helpful, we welcome.
Thank you!

Irish Singing: Brian Corcoran
Students and staff enjoyed our annual visit from Brian Corcoran. He sang songs the children who have been at RES now know with clapping, hand movements and pure joy. It was so much fun and a memory we make together year after year! We also had three of our current and former RES students do Irish step dancing to start us off! Thank you, Orla, Avery and Emma!!!!!
LUNCH IN THE CAF
- Email resoffice@sau50.org if you would like to attend with the date/time. It is important to anticipate who will be in the building. We love these opportunities for students and their family members but we will always put safety first.
- Adults must bring their own lunch and can bring lunch for their own child.
- We do have a focus during this time...eating for energy and brain power!
- Family members must meet the child in the cafeteria and leave from the cafeteria BEFORE we line up all the children.
- Days for family visits are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
- Lunch times are:
Kindergarten-11:45-12:10
First Grade-12:15-12:40
Second Grade-12:15-12:40
Third Grade- 11:15-11:40
Fourth Grade-11:15-11:40
SPOTLIGHT ON A LOCAL HISTORIAN
Alex Herlihy, a local author and historian, is working with some of our third grade students to teach the history of Rye, which coincides with their study of historical fiction. Alex is serving as both a historian and writing coach, as he is a former educator. We could not be more appreciative of his time and effort!
SAU 50 Connections
In an effort to create a ONE STOP SHOP for families, we publish the RES and RJH newsletter on Thursdays and share the link in one place:). Also provided are the central office's SAU 50 newsletter and my monthly board report.
