Welcome Back Cougar Cub Families!
"Learning is our #1 Priority"
A Note from Our Principal
Students at Surry Elementary School are our number one priority. Our mission is to ensure that each student acquires knowledge, skills, values, and self-confidence in order to meet the challenges of a changing society. Our faculty and staff acknowledge that this can only be achieved through the joint partnership of school, home, and community. I look forward to embracing this partnership as we ensure success for each of our students! Let's work to make this year great!
School Wide Expectations
We encourage our students to model our three "R's" motto in the classroom and on the bus:
- Being Respectful to themselves and others.
- Being Responsible for their behaviors and actions.
- Being Ready to learn in the classroom and ride on the bus.
Meet Our Student Support Team
Mr. King

Ms. Porter
School Counselor
Mrs. Monahan
School Nurse
Because we C.A.R.E.
We are excited to introduce the Student Support team, here to support the whole child throughout the school year. Our team includes our administrative team, school counselor, our school social worker, school nurse, and school psychologist. Together, we work to promote students' academic, social-emotional, and physical well-being. Whether it’s helping students build coping skills, navigate challenges, or stay healthy and safe, we are here to partner with families and staff every step of the way. Our school division has added a fourth C to our 3C's introduced by our superintendent last year. That fourth C is CARE! Every staff member is here to support our cubs!
EVERY STUDENT EVERY DAY!
ATTENDANCE AWARENESS
What You Can Do
- Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
- Keep your child healthy and make sure your child has the required shots.
- Introduce your children to their teachers and classmates before school starts.
- Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor or another parent.
- Try to schedule non-Covid-19 related medical appointments and extended trips when school isn't in session.
If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors and other parents for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
If your child must stay home due to illness or quarantine, ask the teacher for resources and ideas to continue learning at home.
