Dear Families,

It was a short, but busy week of learning! Our kindergarten students started blending sounds into words. Our 1st graders have been writing complete sentences. Our second graders are solving word problems with addition and subtraction. Our third graders are learning about multiplication. Our 4th graders are writing opinion pieces. And last, but not least, our 5th graders are wrapping up their first novel, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon.

Thank you for your fundraising efforts the past two weeks!! We are SO close to meeting our goal of $30,000! Hope to see you cheering at our Color Run on Monday morning. One grade will run for 20-25 minutes while the other grade cheers loud & proud! Please make sure you send your student to school in comfortable clothing and sneakers. It is recommended that students wear something they can get dirty with the color spray (a non-toxic color powder). T-shirts will also be available for students to wear during or after the race and students are welcome to bring a change of clothes. Thank you to our EESPG for organizing this fundraiser and to our students, staff, and families for making it a success!!

🧑 October is National Bullying Prevention Month 🧑

Dear Families,

As you know, we are using the Second Step program in your child’s classroom. The Second Step program teaches children important skills for getting along with others and being successful in school. It also helps create a safe, respectful school environment where everyone can learn.

In recognition of Bullying Prevention Month, we will begin using the Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit in our classrooms. Through these lessons, your child will learn specific skills to help recognize, respond to, and prevent bullying.

For bullying prevention to work, everyone at school needs to be involved. Our staff are trained in how to:

β€’ Recognize and respond to bullying

β€’ Support children who have been bullied

β€’ Correct behaviors of children who are bullying

β€’ Use strategies that support a positive school and classroom climate

You can also get involved in making our school a safe and respectful place by letting us know if you hear about bullying at our school. Make sure your child knows to tell you or someone at school if he or she is being bullied. And give your child the clear message that it is never okay to bully others.

For more information on Nauset’s anti-bullying policy and specific procedures, please review the Bullying Prevention policy on our website (Linked online policy JICFB).

Thank you for helping us make our school a safe, respectful place where everyone can learn.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Shaw, Teacher and SEL coordinator

Mrs. Kelly, Adjustment Counselor and SEL coordinator

P.S. Make sure to check out SecondStep.org to get information about what your child is learning in the Second Step program!

Recess - Sneakers & Layers! Recess - Sneakers & Layers!

If your student likes to play soccer during recess, please make sure they wear sneakers. Sneakers are required for soccer to ensure safety. If a student doesn’t have a pair of sneakers they can ask to borrow from Nurse LaBranche. As the weather gets chillier, please send your student to school with layers to keep them warm during outdoor recess. If your family is ever in need of additional clothing or outerwear, please let us know so we can support . πŸ’›πŸ–€
