Family Newsletter
May 15, 2026
Greetings MMS Families,
They say April showers bring May flowers, but in a middle school, May usually brings a whirlwind of energy, achievement, and a bit of "summer fever." As we enter the final stretch of the school year, we want to take a moment to celebrate how much our students have grown since September.
Watching our students evolve from the nervous energy of the fall to the confident young adults they are becoming today is the best part of our job.
As the weather warms up, it can be tempting for students to let their focus drift. We ask for your partnership in keeping our students engaged by checking grades, maintaining routines and celebrating growth.
To our departing 8th graders: The transition to high school is a major milestone. We are so proud of the leadership you’ve shown this year. We look forward to celebrating your promotion and seeing all the incredible things you will accomplish in the next chapter of your journey.
Thank you for being such an integral part of our school community. Let’s make this a time to remember! Just over a month to go!
Sincerely,
Kelly Grantham, Principal
Amy Troiano, Assistant Principal

Highlights from Recent School Events
🎨 A Masterpiece of a Debut: The MMS Art Exhibition
A huge congratulations to Ms. Burns and our talented MMS artists for a stellar first exhibition. The "notes and votes" system was a fantastic way to engage the community. The turnout was a testament to how much our local community values the arts, and its young artists!
Award Spotlight: A special round of applause for our "Best In Show" artists who won by votes. Penelope K (Grade 8), Evangeline B (Grade 7) and Rowan G (Grade 6). You are all so talented!
🎵 High Notes from the Spring Band Concert
The music wing was just as vibrant! Mr. Laciano, Mr. Milazzo, and our Grades 6–8 band students delivered a performance that showcased immense growth and dedication. It’s been a joy to watch your progress throughout the year.

We couldn’t have done it without the refreshments! A big thank you to the MMS Student Council for organizing the bake sale. It provided the perfect "intermission" treats for our art and music lovers alike.
🔎 Class Spotlight 🔦
Grade 6 Science
Using their new knowledge, team Sebago science students took on the role of "citizen scientists" and went on the hunt for these organisms at the vernal pools on our own school grounds. All of the observations and data collected was shared with scientists at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute to help them track how climate change is affecting our vernal pool ecosystems in Maine over time.
Way to go, Team Sebago! Your hard work is helping scientists understand and protect the Maine wilderness we all love.
Student Experience Survey
Next week, our middle school students will participate in a brief Student Experience Survey, a valuable tool used to gather feedback on their daily life at school. This survey asks students to reflect on several key areas, including Engagement, Academic Challenge, Belonging, School Culture, and College & Career Readiness. Hearing directly from our students helps us understand if they feel safe, supported, and appropriately challenged. By gathering this feedback, we can identify what we are doing well and where we can improve to ensure our school remains a safe, fair, and exciting place to learn. We value your child's honest voice as we work together to make our school the best it can be.
