Message from Principal Rogers
Hello SIS Families,
We’ve had a great first few days at SIS! It has been wonderful to have students back in the building, reconnecting with friends and teachers, learning new routines, and settling into the school year. Throughout these first days, we have been intentional about balancing community-building with establishing the clear and consistent expectations that will help students be successful throughout the year.
On the first day of school, students learned about SIS expectations, policies, and procedures in each of their classes while also participating in community-building activities with their teachers and classmates. During Flex Time, Ms. Campbell, our Dean of Students, and I also met with students to review our schoolwide behavioral expectations, the 7–12 Code of Conduct, and our restorative approach to discipline. Our goal is for students to understand not only what is expected of them, but also how we support them in problem-solving, taking accountability, repairing harm, and making better choices when expectations are not met. I encourage all parents and guardians to take some time to review the SIS Student Handbook with their student if you have not yet done so.
Introducing The PACK
This year, students will hear us talk frequently about The PACK: Perseverance, Accountability, Communication, and Kindness. These four traits are at the center of our schoolwide expectations and provide students with a common understanding of what it means to learn, interact, and contribute positively to the SIS community. Throughout the year, we will continue helping students understand what The PACK looks like in classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria, during Flex Time, and throughout our school community. We encourage families to reinforce these same expectations at home as we work together to help students develop habits that extend well beyond middle school.
Electric Scooters
We have a number of students riding electric scooters to school this year. Beginning next week, electric scooters will not be permitted inside the school building and must be secured to the bike racks outside. Students are responsible for bringing an appropriate lock and securing their own scooter. Families should also plan accordingly for inclement weather. If a student's scooter is not designed to withstand rain or other weather conditions, they should make alternative transportation arrangements on those days. Thank you for your cooperation.
Cell Phone & Wearable Technology Reminder
Thank you to our students and families for your support as we implement our Cell Phone/Wearable Technology expectations this year. As a reminder, students are expected to power off cell phones and wearable technology at 8:15 a.m., and devices must remain powered off throughout the school day. During class, devices must be placed in the classroom cell phone caddy. During passing periods, lunch, recess, and Flex Time, devices must remain put away and out of sight.
If a student is seen with a device during the school day (non-instructional time), it will be confiscated and kept in the office until the end of the day, and a parent/guardian will be notified via email. Continued non-compliance may result in additional disciplinary action in accordance with our school and district expectations.
We are also asking all families to complete the Cell Phone/Wearable Technology Form as soon as possible indicating whether their student will bring a cell phone and/or smartwatch to school. If you have already completed the form, thank you!
Fall FastBridge Screening
Looking ahead, on Thursday, September 10, all students will complete the Fall FastBridge Reading and Math Screeners during their ELA and Math classes. These assessments provide us with important benchmark information about students’ reading and math skills and help us monitor academic growth throughout the school year. Additional information about FastBridge is included below.
Upcoming SIS Events
I hope you’ll join us for our SIS Back-to-School Picnic, hosted by the PTO, on Friday, September 11, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Hubbard Park. This is always a great opportunity for students, families, and staff to come together outside of the school day, and I’m looking forward to connecting with many of you there.
Also, please save the date for our SIS Parent/Guardian Orientation on Thursday, September 17, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. More information about the evening will be shared in next week’s bulletin.
Thank you for your partnership in helping us get the school year off to a strong start. As always, please take some time to review the important information and updates below. Have a wonderful rest of your week!
In Partnership,
Tiara Rogers, SIS Principal

Costa Rica Trip: Interested Traveler and Chaperone Q&A
Does your child take Spanish and want to know more about the Costa Rica Trip in the summer of 2027? Interested student travelers and guardians are invited to attend an optional informational meeting in Profe Anton’s Room 234 at SIS on one of these two dates:
- Monday, September 14, 4-5 pm OR

SIS FastBridge Testing: Thursday, September 10
To assess academic skills in the areas of Reading and Math for students in grades K-8, we will be using the FastBridge Universal Screening Assessment. FastBridge is an evidence-based, valid, and reliable test that will allow staff to identify students who are on track in the academic areas of reading and math as well as students who may need supplemental instruction to allow for growth. This assessment will be administered in the Fall, Winter, and Spring to measure each student’s growth throughout the school year. You can learn more here: FastBridge Parent Information. Please reach out to Mike Joynt with any questions or concerns.
SIS will conduct the first round of FastBridge testing on Thursday, September 10 during ELA and Math classes. Please remind students to charge their Chromebooks overnight and come to school on Thursday with a pair of corded earbuds or headphones.

Reporting School Absences and Appointments
We appreciate when guardians report student absences to the SIS office in a timely fashion. Whether your student needs to arrive late, leave school for an appointment, or will be out for the whole day, you now have three ways to report the information so we can keep things flowing smoothly. Please use whatever reporting method is easiest for you!
- Leave a voicemail on the attendance line at 414-963-6959
- Email sisinfo@shorewood.k12.wi.us
- Use the Infinite Campus Portal (More > Absence Requests)
For medical appointments, please submit the slip you receive from the doctor's office after the appointment to the main office, either on paper or via email to sisinfo@shorewood.k12.wi.us.
When your student was in elementary school, it may have seemed natural for you to notify their teacher about absences and appointments. You do not need to do that in grades 7-12. The office will record attendance information in Infinite Campus, where all of your child's teachers will see it.
Refer to the SSD 7-12 Grade Attendance Guidelines
To learn more about reporting student absences through the Infinite Campus website, please click here for a brief introduction or here for a video. The Campus Parent (Infinite Campus app) is available both on the Apple and Google Play stores. If you need help with accessing Infinite Campus, please contact Iris Bohan at ibohan@shorewood.k12.wi.us for assistance.

Wanted: Boxes of Kleenex!!
We no longer require boxes of tissue on the school supplies list, but we still count on families to donate this vital resource as early and as often as they are able. If you have the means, please consider sending a few boxes of tissues in with your student during the first few days of school. All of our noses will bless you!
Should families have to donate facial tissues to schools?
Schools already provide essential hygiene supplies—such as toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, and period products—by purchasing the lowest-cost options available. While this keeps budgets under control, it often results in low-quality items. If facial tissues were added to the school budget, they would likely be purchased in the same way. Anyone who has had a cold can imagine how unpleasant it would be to rely on tissues that feel like institutional-grade toilet paper.
Adding facial tissues to the budget would also require shifting funds away from instructional materials such as books, classroom supplies, and other learning resources. Although bulk purchasing might meet student needs, estimating the exact amount needed each year is difficult.
A more practical and flexible solution is to request voluntary donations throughout the year. If every student was able to bring three full-sized boxes, the communal supply might be sufficient. Families who can contribute more are welcome to do so, while families on tight budgets are not obligated to contribute at all. This approach helps maintain an adequate supply of tissues without burdening teachers or reducing funding for essential classroom materials.
Thank you!
SIS Yearbooks
Every year SIS creates the kind of Yearbook that most of you are probably familiar with from previous school years. At SIS, students who are interested in designing the Yearbook are encouraged to join the Yearbook Club. More information on that will be coming during the first weeks of school. Families can preorder a Yearbook by purchasing through Infinite Campus. (In the Fees tab, scroll down to click the Optional Payments button, and add “SIS Yearbook” to your cart.) The cost is $12, and Yearbooks will be distributed in June. Place your order anytime throughout the school year; we will send periodic emails to families who have not yet ordered a yearbook, to repeat these instructions.
If you would like to purchase a yearbook but are facing financial challenges, please email sisinfo@shorewood.k12.wi.us to request a yearbook free of charge. Thanks!
