Open House was a huge success! La casa abierta fue un exito!
Hundreds came to celebrate World Cultural Day at La Escuela Fratney last week!
La Escuela Fratney proudly celebrated World Cultural Day with joy, learning, and community spirit. Each class studied a different country and shared their learning through songs, dances, presentations, and creative projects. Hundreds of family members joined us to celebrate the rich diversity of our bilingual and inclusive school community. We are deeply grateful to our teachers, students, and families for making this event so special. It was a beautiful opportunity to honor the many cultures, languages, and traditions that make our school strong and vibrant. Ms. Sara was awarded a commendation from the WI State Assembly
Principal Ms. Sara Cruz of La Escuela Fratney was recently surprised by Academic Superintendent Dr. Noland with a commendation from the Wisconsin State Assembly recognizing more than 25 years of service and leadership in bilingual education, family engagement, strategic communication, organizational advancement, and community advocacy. Over the past five years, La Escuela Fratney has experienced tremendous positive growth under Ms. Cruz’s leadership, including the implementation of the K3 program, an increase of more than 70 students in enrollment, expanded restorative practices, decreased behavior referrals, stronger bilingual education practices, increased family communication, and continued dedication to social justice and community-centered learning.
During these past 5 years, the school has also built many new community partnerships, collaborated with artist Tia Richardson on a community mural, and received board approval to expand to 8th grade. The La Escuela Fratney community is grateful to Representative Darrin Madison Jr. and Senator Dora Drake for their continued support and recognition of the school’s impact. Special thanks as well to Dr. Noland for taking the time to celebrate this recognition and surprise Ms. Cruz in front of a packed room of students, families, and staff while honoring the incredible growth and progress La Escuela Fratney has achieved together.

Volunteers
Volunteers
Are you interested in volunteering at La Escuela Fratney? We welcome volunteers to support with arrival, lunch, and recess times. Per our school policy, families are not able to volunteer in their own child's classroom on an ongoing basis. If you are interested in volunteering in classrooms, it must be a different classroom and be organized and approved through the parent coordinator Ms. Grace.
Here is the paragraph from the MPS Family manual that describes the volunteer process:
Family Volunteers
Persons interested in volunteering are encouraged to follow the appropriate volunteer application process defined by the district. MPS defines a volunteer as a person who provides services on an ongoing or one-time basis. Persons looking to serve on an ongoing basis or for more than five hours a week or for an overnight field trip must complete an online volunteer application, pass a criminal background check (for those 18 years of age or older), and receive a volunteer assignment by the school administrator or parent coordinator. Persons looking to participate in a daytime field trip or other one-time activity must complete a volunteer waiver form. The online volunteer application and the volunteer waiver form are available on the MPS website under the Families tab > Volunteer.
