Angell Network News - October 23

Updates from Mr. Provost Updates from Mr. Provost

Angell Families,

This week, I am truly grateful for the partnership Angell Elementary shares with our families and community. I am happy to report that we surpassed our goal of 150 family responses on our MRA School Survey. The information gathered will help guide our decision-making, and there will be another feedback opportunity in the spring.

The support we have received during Safe Schools Week has been outstanding. Our fire drill and lockdown drill both went as planned and prompted great conversations about how our school works together to keep everyone safe. As I mentioned in yesterday’s communication, safety drills will continue throughout the school year. I encourage every family to talk with their students about our safety drills, their purpose, and the expectations for students when we practice them.

I am really enjoying the warm weather we are having over the weekends. The fall cleanup is still happening at my house; in addition to clearing leaves, we are trying to remove all the English ivy from my yard. Although English ivy looks nice, it tends to overgrow and overtake all of the other trees and plants. Removal is quite a process: it involves digging out all the ivy down to the roots, spraying the area, and then blocking the sun by covering the area with thick plastic. We have had good luck with this in our front yard, and I am hoping for the best in the backyard.

Looking ahead to next week, we have our Halloween parade and class celebrations. Please make sure you review the costume expectations, which can be found further down in the newsletter. Due to construction on Wiltshire, we will need to use a different path for the parade. We will still use Bacon, Phillips, and Beverly; however, we will go across the field (by the basketball court) to get from Bacon to Phillips. A map of the route can be found below. Families are welcome to line up on the field, leaving a pathway for students to walk. We hope to see you there!

Happy Weekend,

Mr. P

Halloween Parade Information 2026 Halloween Parade Information 2026

Our Halloween Parade is scheduled for 9:00 am on Friday, October 30th. The entire community is welcome to come and enjoy our lap around the outside of school as we show off our costumes and enjoy another opportunity to celebrate as a community.

Costume Expectations

We want the day to be fun, safe, and age-appropriate for all of our Angellfish. Please review these expectations with your child:

  • Age-appropriate and respectful. Costumes should be suitable for elementary students and follow the Angell ACTs: kindness, safety, and productivity. Costumes should not make fun of real people, human traits, or cultures.

  • No horror or violence themes. Costumes with scary, gory, or violent elements are not allowed.

  • No weapons or sports equipment. Students may not bring toy guns, knives, swords, bats, hockey sticks, or similar items as part of their costume.

  • No masks or extreme makeup. Full masks and face paint that hide a student's identity are not allowed. Please also skip the fake blood.

  • Comfort and safety. Costumes should let students move safely, sit comfortably, and use the restroom on their own.

  • When to wear costumes. Students should wear their costumes to school on Friday, October 30th. After the parade and classroom celebrations, teachers will let students know if they may change out of their costumes.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Teacher and Staff Appreciation

The PTA's Teacher/Staff Appreciation Committee is trying something a little different this year to try to achieve more consistent stocking of the staff lounge. We will be trialing bi-monthly 'stock the lounge' events split between the grades and one final school-wide 'stock the lounge' event in April.

October: TK/K & 5th Grade

December: 1st & 4th Grade

February: 2nd & 3rd Grade

April: Whole school

So, TK/K/5th Grade families, we need your help for October! Please help us reward our well-deserving staff with some treats to get through the day. Here is the Amazon Wishlist link: https://tinyurl.com/Angell26 if you would like to choose something.

If you'd like to purchase a similar item from the store, please email bphaneuf14@gmail.com to arrange pickup.

Thank you very much!
