Message from the Principal and Assistant Principal
Dear Hillcrest and Pine Avenue Families,
Cooperation is our Character Strong focus this month, and it’s a skill that helps children thrive in every part of their day. At school, cooperation looks like listening to directions, sharing materials, taking turns, and working with classmates toward a common goal. These habits help classrooms run smoothly and create a learning environment where every child feels respected and ready to learn. When students practice cooperation consistently, they build the foundation for stronger friendships, better problem‑solving, and greater confidence in themselves.
One of the most effective ways families can support cooperation at home is through age‑appropriate chores. Chores teach children that being part of a family means contributing to shared responsibilities, not just completing tasks for rewards. Simple routines—like setting the table, feeding a pet, or helping sort laundry—build responsibility, follow‑through, and independence. Children who regularly help at home often transition more smoothly into classroom expectations because they are already practicing the same skills: listening, completing tasks, and working as part of a team.
When home and school reinforce the same message—we help each other, we follow through, and we work together—children grow stronger in both settings. If your child is struggling with cooperation at school, practicing small, consistent routines at home can make a meaningful difference. Celebrating effort, naming cooperative moments, and keeping expectations steady helps children understand that cooperation is not just something we talk about; it’s something we do. Together, we can help students build the habits that support success in school, at home, and in their relationships.
Your partner in education,
Dr. Konowalow and Ms. Jaeck

School Highlights
This week our students showed incredible cooperation and curiosity across a variety of learning experiences. With no STEAM class, classrooms leaned into teamwork as students worked together to build circuits—sharing ideas, problem‑solving, and celebrating each successful connection. We also welcomed several guest readers who brought stories to life and reminded students of the joy and power of reading. To round out the week, our St. Patrick’s Day activities added a festive burst of fun and creativity throughout the building, making it a memorable week of learning and community.
