Bronze at Regionals
The Bulldogs, with a new lineup, ran a 1:28.3 in the preliminaries to qualify for the final. That time cleanly broke the school record of 1:29.47.
The foursome of Adrian Gurado-Velez, Max Thornton, Jett Wilson and Liam Chapman lowered that time to 1:27.08 in the final to take third place behind Denton High (1:25.27) and Amarillo High (1:26.36).
UIL to State
Wylie had an outstanding showing at the Region I-5A UIL Academics Meet in Lubbock, with 12 students advancing to the State Meet in May. Briana Allen, Alex Burkhart, Joshua Corrigan, and Canyon South each earned first place in their respective events. Wylie finished as the Runner-Up Sweepstakes Champion, placing 2nd out of 57 schools in Region I.
VASE to State
Some of our Bulldog artists earned the chance to attend State VASE which occured last weekend in San Marcos. Caitlin Farr, Morgan Dean, Malia Gentry, Addie Fuqua, Zoey Romero, Dez Benavides, Nehemiah Turner and Sarah Trevino were among the top 2,154 best student artist in the entire state of Texas.
To be at State is a honor in itself and often humbling in the presence of such talent. But we took it one step further this year and one of our students brought home a GOLD SEAL! Junior, Caitlin Farr, earned a Gold Seal at State VASE for her welded artwork titled Metal Mustang! 34,ooo works of art were entered into VASE.
Of those, only 2,154 were picked to go to State Vase and of that number, only 151 made a Gold Seal. That makes her the top 7% in the entire state of Texas!
We think that all of our students are amazing but the accolade doesn't hurt! We are doing great things here in the Bulldog Nation! Congratulations to all our student artists and their amazing achievements!

🎖️ Military Academy
If you are eyeing a Service Academy, your "senior year" starts now. To stay in the running, you need to be proactive:
Pre-Applications: Begin completing your pre-candidate questionnaires and pre-applications immediately.
The Nomination: You cannot attend an academy without a nomination. Familiarize yourself with the specific deadlines for your U.S. Representative and Senators today.
Testing: Schedule your SAT/ACT. These scores are mandatory for both the nomination process and the academy application.
Fitness: Start training for the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA). Review the requirements early so you aren't surprised by the intensity in the fall.
🎓 College Pathway
For those targeting UT-Austin, Texas A&M, or other competitive universities, the goal is to beat the August rush.
Account Setup: Applications often open before your senior year starts. Set up your Common App or MyTexasFuture/ApplyTX accounts now.
The "Ask": Email your recommendation requests to teachers or mentors. Include a resume or a "Brag Sheet" highlighting your goals, sports, clubs, and volunteering to help them write a more detailed letter.
The Essay: Start drafting your college essay now. It is the most time-consuming part of the app—get it out of the way so it doesn't get in the way of your summer fun!
Stay Professional: Ensure you have a professional personal email address (e.g., firstname.lastname@email.com) for all university correspondence and portal application setup.
🛠️ The Workforce Pathway
Heading straight into a career? Your "application season" is all about building your professional brand.
LinkedIn & Networking: Create a LinkedIn profile to "own" your Google search results. Follow local companies to see what skills they are hiring for.
Certifications: Check if your senior year CTE (Career and Technical Education) courses offer certifications in fields like HVAC, Welding, or IT.

Have you caught someone being a Bulldog?
Have you caught a student or a WHS staff member "Being a Bulldog"? We want to hear about it!
What is being a Bulldog? The American Kennel Club describes a Bulldog as kind but courageous, full of tenacity, friendly, and loyal companions. It is fitting that we are the Wylie Bulldogs because those are the qualities we strive for our campus to exude.
We believe that it is important to recognize those that are examples of kindness, friendliness, loyalty, and courage. Students and staff members can be nominated by students, staff, and community members. It is the hope of WHS that Bulldogs will inspire other Bulldogs to continue to show these characteristics. Nominate someone here!
