"Encourage one another and build each other up ..."
1 Thessalonians 5:11
What a fantastic trip to the Chemistry Lab we had! Thank you to all our parent drivers who were able to make this possible! I also want to pass on from UCSB that this class was amazing in so many ways! They really loved how well the class listened, participated eagerly, made safe choices, and asked such great questions! Please check Seesaw, as I have posted some photos there! If you would like to learn more about what the students did in the Chemistry Lab, please let me know, and I'm happy to send home a packet from UCSB on the stations!
We have finished our 1st Trimester; can you believe we are 1/3 of the way through the year already? Report cards are in the Friday Folders today. This is a good time to talk to your student about achievements that have been made this trimester (so many!) or any goals to set for next trimester. Please sign and return the envelope in the Friday Folder. The report card is for you, and can be kept at home.
We had a busy week, trying to fit a lot in! In Reading, we focused on expository text, reading stories called Gulf Coast Heroes and Winter's Tail. In Math, we started dividing with decimals, and the class has really taken to it! In Science, we studied worm behaviors, and brushed up on our Chemistry knowledge in preparation for our field trip. In Social Studies, we finalized our plans for our State Report project, and went over timelines and expectations. In Religion, we finished our Keep Christ in Christmas posters, and worked through more of our sacrament unit.
Read In Day
The class has worked very hard to reach their goal of 800 Dojo points, and hit it this week! We are planning a read in day for the Monday we return to school, December 1. Students are welcome to wear pajamas to school, and bring pillows and/or blankets to school to cozy up for a day of reading! I'll have hot chocolate and some treats for the class as well!
State Report
When we return from Thanksgiving Vacation, we will begin work on our State Report. This is a lengthy research report that serves as our main writing project all trimester. Each component of the report is broken down into chapters, which we will focus on - one per week. Thank you all for sitting with your student and logging into your school Google account, where students will have access to all material. While we do most of this work at school, there may be some work needed at home. Please feel free to reach out with any questions!
SLE Achiever
Congratulations to Malachi, for receiving our SLE award for ACHIEVER this month! Malachi has worked hard in achieving his best, both inside and outside the classroom. He is kind and respectful to his classmates and adults on campus. Way to go, Malachi! Keep it up!
5th Grade Class Wishlist
A huge thank you to those who have been able to purchase off our classroom wishlist. If you have not yet, but would like to, here is the link to all fixed priced items. If you scroll down to find 5th grade, you'll find several opportunities. These donations help to grow and maintain our classroom library, purchase supplies for crafts, allow for recording video lessons, and extra practice and individualization in math. I so appreciate you all; thank you!
Giving Tree
When we get back to school, it will already be December! With that, I wanted to give you a heads up on The Giving Tree, which is our class effort to help provide Christmas to a family in need. For more information, or if you plan to do any shopping over break, and would like to make a donation, please check out the sign up here.
