Dear PK8 Families,

Labor Day: We hope everyone is having a wonderful three-day weekend! Remember there is no school tomorrow. When students return on Tuesday, we will be entering through the new front entrance! While there is still touch ups to do, we are officially in our new offices and the main entrance is now open.

Conferences: This week K-5 students will be bringing home parent teacher sign up forms in their Tuesday express, please make sure to fill them out and return to the school as soon as possible so we can get conferences scheduled. We will be sending a digital sign-up genius for 6-8 on Tuesday as well. Conferences will take place September 28 & 29.

Fundraisers For the past five years, Paonia K8 greatly benefited from the Colorado Educator Initiative (CEI) grant. Unfortunately, that grant is no longer available, and it funded a large portion of the middle school outdoor education programming. This Friday, our students will participate in a Walk-A-Thon where they will be taking pledges for the number of laps around the field they can make in one hour. Since the event is taking place on September 11, the first two laps will be done in silence to honor the first responders and the 110 steps taken that day 25 years ago. We will be hosting a BBQ for first responders following the event. Please reach out if you would like to support in any way.

Athletics and Activities: Student Council elections are wrapping up, and we have an exceptional groups of young leaders this year. Knowledge Bowl interest meetings for 6, 7-8 grade teams will take place this week. PeeWee sports begin competitions this week and out Middle School athletics are entering their third week in competition. We recognize engagement in team activities helps students to grow stronger and increase positive relationships.

Academics: The state School Performance Frameworks were released this week. Paonia K8 is extremely proud to announce our score was 80.2 (high performing) with Achievement in both elementary and middle ranking EXCEEDS, elementary growth EXCEEDS, and middle school growth MET. We are so proud of the learning and growth that takes place, and that is thanks to home, school, and community supporting our students!

It is ideal if students know how to play, but if they want to learn, we are happy to teach them.

Mr. B hosts chess club on his own time. The goal is to provide a focused, calming, wrap-up for the week. Chess is an excellent activity. Good behavior and a ride home is required.
