PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Friday, September 18th
We finished up MAP makeup testing this week and everything went well. We appreciate everyone's cooperation in supporting our students through these assessments! Results will be emailed home directly from the district on Friday, September 25th.
Thank you to our traffic team for organizing our amazing Bike Rodeo on Tuesday afternoon! Students that attended learned how to be safe, ready, and mindful while riding their bikes to and from school! We are very grateful to Chris Fries, Tracy Boyd, Kent Boyd, Liz Loeppert, Nick Patel, Kristen Becker, Tina Fries and three recent Patton alumni: Carter Fries, Savannah Olson, and Katie Veselinova for giving their time to ensure students riding their bikes to and from Patton know how to do so safely. We are also grateful to our our Arlington Heights Police Officers for checking everyone's bikes and helmets!
It was an exciting week as the 5th grade Musical choice was revealed to students through a variety of clues yesterday. The 5th Grade Musical performance will be......THE LION KING Jr! This is sure to be a "roar"some show and I cannot wait to see what magic Mr. Whitaker and the 5th grade crew bring to the stage this time around!
Please don't forget that there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 21st. Enjoy the long weekend and g'mar chatima tovah to our families that will be recognizing Yom Kippur.
Thank you,
Ellie Chin
CHILD SEX ABUSE PREVENTION LESSONS (NEW POST)
Child Sexual Abuse Prevention lessons will begin soon at Patton. Illinois Public Act 097-1147, requires public schools to provide child sexual abuse prevention education for children in prekindergarten through twelfth grades. Age-appropriate instruction helps students recognize unsafe situations, keep themselves safe, and understand how to respond to unsafe situations. School social workers work with each grade level to provide age-appropriate information on topics such as safe versus unsafe touching, the touching rule, secrets, and reporting.
The following link includes more information, including presentations and opt-out forms:
If you choose to opt your child out of the presentation, please share the form with Mrs Chin at echin@sd25.org.
Mrs. Donahue will teach a lesson in each classroom beginning in October. She targets one grade level per week with the plan that all grade levels will receive their lesson before Thanksgiving break.
Please submit any opt-out forms before Monday, October 5th.
PLEASE LABEL ALL ITEMS (NEW POST!)
As the season starts to change, we anticipate more items ending up in our lost and found.
Please remember to label all your child/ren's belongings so we can easily reunite items with students.
Mrs. Dunning goes through the lost and found regularly and always returns labelled items to their owners!
When the lost and found shelves become too full, we donate all unclaimed items.
SUPPORTING POSITIVE STUDENT BEHAVIOR (NEW POST!)
LIMITING INTERRUPTIONS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY (NEW POST!)
We are trying to limit classroom interruptions this year! We appreciate everyone taking a moment each morning to ensure that students have everything they need before they get to school. We understand that mornings can be hectic and things get forgotten, but every item that is dropped off after the start of school is a call that disrupts student learning.
If you need to take your student home early, please be mindful of the lunch hour. Our lunch period runs from 12:10 - 1:10pm. If your student has an appointment in the middle of this time period, please consider picking them up at the beginning of the lunch hour as it can be challenging to locate students when they are playing at recess.
An email to the teacher and the front office to provide information regarding early dismissals is always appreciated and ensures a smoother transition for everyone involved.
Thank you for partnering with us on this front!
SNACK TIME - FRUIT AND VEGETABLES IN THEIR OWN SKIN (2nd POST!)
All students are allowed and encouraged to bring in a snack to enjoy during the school day. All snacks are limited to a fruit or a vegetable in its own skin.
We kindly ask that you please do not send in any fruit cups, dried fruit, fruit roll ups, crackers, chips, cookies, etc for snack time. These items can be included with their lunch. Thank you so much.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES (2nd POST!)
Fall conferences will take place on Thursday, October 22nd and Friday, October 23rd. School will NOT be in session on these dates. Conference times are available on Thursday morning, afternoon, and evening as well as Friday morning. Each conference is scheduled for 20 minutes.
The Signup Genius will go live on SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th at 7:00 pm. You will be emailed the link directly.
These conferences are always a great way for you to connect with your child(ren)'s teacher, spend time in the classroom and hear about your child's school life and how they are progressing this year! We appreciate the ongoing partnership and collaboration that is shared in the Patton community. Please note that there is only one conference time slot for each student.
Fourth and Fifth Grade Parents: The conference times are for meeting with your child's homeroom teacher. If your child has a different teacher for math and you have specific math questions, please email their teacher directly.
MUSICAL PERFORMANCES (2nd POST!)
Music is off to another great school year! It has been amazing having your musicians back in music class and believe me, we are already making music and having fun together! I just wanted to quickly share with you all grade level performance dates for the year. Please see the attached flyer, mark your calendars, and we will see you when your performers hit the stage!

PATTON TRAFFIC TEAM - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! (Ongoing Post!)
Welcome back Patton Families! We on the traffic team are looking forward to seeing everyone next week!
We are so lucky to have wonderful parent, grandparent and caregiver volunteers come to help ensure these times of the day run smoothly and safely. This year, we are in need of some extra help! Do you (or a caregiver or a grandparent...) have a bit of spare time before or after school? Do you want to be one of the first friendly faces our Patton Panthers see when they arrive at school or the last high five they get at the end of the school day? If so, we would love for you to consider volunteering to help us get our Panthers in and out of cars! We welcome people who are able to give any amount of time - morning only, afternoon only, one day a week, or even just once-in-a-while as a substitute! We would be so grateful for your help!
Being part of the traffic team is a great way to feel like part of the amazing Patton community and is also a great way to meet other parents!
If you are considering volunteering, but aren't quite ready to make a commitment, you can shadow a traffic volunteer one day and see what it's like. We have wonderful kids who smile at you, say thank you, and are excited to tell you about their day. (Great job, parents!)
If you're ready to help, complete this google form to express your interest. Thank you!
Reach out with any questions to pattontrafficteam@gmail.com and we can help.
Thanks,
Chris and Tracy
