December 8-14, 2024

Good morning Cannon families,

Wow, what an AMAZING Week! Please help me give a HUGE SHOUT OUT to our Dad's Club and PTA for making this such a memorable week for our Cannon Community! Our hard working Dad's Club earned another award winning parade float honor - CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR STEMtastic DADS led by Socrates Villarreal! Riding the float through the parade route is always a magical experience, but it didn't end there. Our dads showcased the engineering design process that brought their award-winning design to real world application. Our Cubs LOVED learning from our creative dads!

Our Cubs also had a wonderful visit from the GMS band and choir for a festive holiday performance; several former Cubs came back to showcase their talents!

Our week ended with our traditional PTA Santa Breakfast! What a FANTASTIC morning fueled with holiday spirit and community building! Please help me give a special SHOUT OUT to our PTA organizers and volunteers! HUGE KUDOS to our magnificent Santa Breakfast PTA event organizers and facilitators - Kalere Coleman, Anna Cordova, Debbie Flowers, Michelle Foiles, Stefani Donaldson, Maureen Collins, and Jordan Meline! We would also like to thank our Cannon Cub Choir led by Ms. Jenny Rios, Santa - Jason Ridley w/ JRA Insurance (Colleyville, TX Insurance Agents | Jason Ridley Agency | Texas), Food Discounts and Donations from Sweet Spot Donuts, Chick-fil-A & Meat U Anywhere BBQ, and our event DJ - Robby Balbaugh!

We had an AMAZING turnout - THANK YOU FOR ATTENDING OUR CANNON COMMUNITY PTA SANTA BREAKFAST!

Congratulations to our fourth and fifth grade STEM Habit of Mind Hall of Fame Inductees for Communicating Clearly! STEM teaching and learning is an instructional approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through STEM education practices, students develop key skills including: problem solving, creativity, and critical analysis. We are PROUD to honor our scholars for exhibiting STEM thinking, and we can't wait to celebrate our next group of inductees this Friday.

It's time for our annual Kindergarten Candy House Design Challenge! We are asking for sweet donations to make this traditional learning experience a tasty delight. Our kindergarten teachers would like any donations to be received by Friday, December 13th. Feel free to donate as little or as much as possible! Our Cubs go through a lot of candy when building their innovative designs! We do need at least 1 can of frosting per kindergarten scholar (62). Thank you for any help you can provide!

We are sincerely grateful for these remarkable GHS Belles (Future Fillies) who volunteers their time Saturday morning to make our PTA Santa Breakfast a heartwarming success. Their time and efforts helped our Cubs have an amazing time; We can't thank them enough for their extraordinary generosity to fuel our Cannon Community!

While we are on the topic of our amazing community~

Our school participates in a program called Shoes that Fit from Rack Room Shoes. Throughout the year people that shop at Rack Room Shoes can make donations to Shoes that Fit at checkout. In November, schools that participate in the program are gifted with a gift card for $1000-$1500 depending on the amount donated throughout the year. The gift card is used to purchase new shoes for our students in need. This is an amazing community partnership that supports our Cannon community each year!

9 1/2 more days of school; Let's keep this amazing school and holiday spirit going!

As always, thank you for your parent partnership!

Proud to be your principal,

Dr. Tina Garrett

Cannon Elementary is excited to announce a special opportunity coming to our school this holiday season. Students can experience the joy of giving by shopping at the Penguin Patch Secret Santa Shop at Cannon! During Specials time, students will have the opportunity to shop and find gifts for family and friends. There will be over 100 gifts for adults & children, $.25 - $12. Students can learn about financial literacy in a fun hands-on learning experience. This is only for students to participate in at school and is a great way for them to surprise family and friends with gifts they pick out. Parents will not be able to shop with their students, but PTA volunteers and staff will be available for student needs. Please assist your child in setting a budget for everyone they want to buy gifts for using the money envelope provided. Students can bring money in their completed envelope any day December 17th - 19th (Tuesday - Thursday). Only students with money in hand will be allowed to shop and students may only shop once depending on when they bring their money. The Science Behind Our Delicious, Whole Grain School Rolls!

Did you know that science plays a crucial role in making our tasty school rolls? Yeast, a tiny but mighty microorganism, is the secret ingredient that helps our rolls rise to perfection. When yeast is mixed with the dough, it ferments, producing carbon dioxide that makes the dough expand and gives the rolls their light, fluffy texture.

But that’s not all—our school rolls are made with whole grains, packed with nutrients, and full of flavor. They’re not just delicious but also a healthy choice to fuel your day.
