Weekly Recap and Preview

We hosted Jefferson for our final Home Dual this last week. Unfortunately, they don't have a lot of wrestlers so there were a lot of forfeits. Chase kicked things off with an incredible back and forth match at 113 and got a pin with 7 seconds left in the match. Art wrestled tough at 120, but came up short and Gabriel had an extremely difficult opponent at 157. Tabor, Sacha, and Kenny all got wins in their exhibition matches. The final score was 54-17, which brought our overall Dual record to 6-2 for the boys and 2-3 for the girls.

Girl's Regionals took place on Friday and Saturday at Sandy High School. This is the girl's state qualifying tournament, only 4 athletes per weight class make it to the state meet. Friday night we got off to a terrific start. At the end of the evening, we had 4 wrestlers in the semifinals and 3 still in the consolation bracket. We were in 2nd place out of 26 teams!

Saturday we didn't perform quite as well, but all 4 of our wrestlers that were in the semifinals qualified for state! Zorina finished 1st at 135 pounds and was awarded outstanding wrestler for the upper weights, while Misha wrestled an incredible tournament to finish 2nd at 140. Genevie and Saya both overcame injuries to finish 4th at 135 and 140. The team finished 5th overall, with 4 PIL teams finishing in the top 5. All of our athletes that wrestled got at least one win in the tournament, which is an amazing accomplishment. We are so proud of this team and look forward to continue building on our successes.

This year's seniors are an incredible group that range from first time wrestlers to 13 year wrestlers. They bring a tremendous amount of knowledge and energy to practices and competitions. They have helped us build a welcoming and inclusive community that keeps growing and improving every year. Our team wouldn't be the same without their leadership, commitment, and dedication. We wish them the best in all of their future endeavors.

Boy's Districts/State Qualifying is this Friday and Saturday at Lincoln High School.

Friday:

2:45 PM - Early Release

3:00 PM - Bus leaves for Lincoln

4:00 PM - Weigh-Ins

5:30 PM - Wrestling Begins

Wrestle through the quarterfinals/8 wrestlers remain per weight class

8:30 PM - Depart

9:00 PM - Arrive back at IBW
