Letter from the Principal
Mustang Memo: October 1, 2025
2025-2026 School Year
Dear WES families,
It’s hard to believe we are already wrapping up the first month of school! The year is off to a wonderful start, and we are looking forward to many exciting events in the weeks ahead. Please be sure to mark down dates and times from teacher newsletters and school updates so you don’t miss anything.
Over the past month, students have done a great job practicing safety drills—we’ve completed three fire drills so far. As we move into October, we will continue practicing safety routines to ensure everyone knows what to do in an emergency.
On Friday, we held our first school assembly, where we celebrated our September Model Mustangs and Kindness Award recipients. Next month, we will be focusing on cooperation as our character trait. We’re also excited to continue Principal lunches—each grade level will have students chosen to have lunch with the me. These students are recognized for earning a Model Mustang ticket during the month of September.
In the coming weeks, all K–5 students will be taking the NWEA assessments in reading and math. Please check your child’s classroom newsletter for the exact testing dates. You can support your child by reminding them of good test-taking strategies, encouraging a good night’s sleep, and making sure they eat a healthy breakfast.
Finally, with Fryeburg Fair week approaching, please remember that if you plan to take your child during the school day, a Planned Absence form must be submitted at least 3 days in advance for the absence to be excused.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue building a positive, engaging, and safe school year for all students!
Respectfully,
Mrs. LeSieur- Principal
Mr. Stinson- Assistant Principal
Character Trait of the Month
October- Cooperation
"Cooperation means working together as a team. When we help each other, we can do amazing things we couldn’t do alone!"
"Cooperating is like sharing a big puzzle. Everyone has a piece, and when we work together, we complete the picture!"
"When we cooperate, we listen to each other’s ideas and make decisions as a group. It’s a way to be kind and fair."
"Cooperation is like being on a sports team—you cheer each other on and work together to reach a goal!"

NWEA Testing
Over the next few weeks, students in grades K–5 will be participating in the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments. These assessments are given in the areas of reading and math and are designed to help us better understand each child’s academic growth and identify areas where they may need additional support or enrichment.
The NWEA is adaptive, which means the questions adjust in difficulty based on how students respond. This helps us get a more accurate picture of what each student knows and what they are ready to learn next. Results from these assessments are used by teachers to guide instruction and set learning goals for students.
We encourage you to remind your child to do their best, get a good night’s sleep, and eat a healthy breakfast on testing days. The data that we get from this testing helps us to determine if students need Tier 2 or Tier 3 instruction. It is important for all students to take their time and put in their best effort. While the assessment is important, it is just one measure of your child’s progress, and we value all the ways students demonstrate growth and learning each day.
