Resource Guide for Families Facing Reduced Benefits
Resource Guide for Families Facing Reduced Benefits
Across our community, people are facing reductions or delays in SNAP benefits, income disruptions, and mounting financial stress, and they are turning to trusted organizations for answers. In response, United Way of Berks County has created a resource guide to offer some clarity and connection during these challenging times.
Attached are English and Spanish versions of the guide, also available at https://www.uwberks.org/guide-for-help/, which include:
- Steps for accessing food, housing, and utility assistance
- Help checking benefit status or resolving issues
- Resources for mental health, childcare, and more
- Local contacts including PA 211, Helping Harvest, Centro Hispano, CareerLink, and others
Please contact your child’s school counselor if you have any questions or concerns.
News from the Nurse
- With the return of cooler temperatures, please ensure your child arrives at school dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. Students will be outside as much as the weather will allow.
- Students should arrive with comfortable and durable shoes appropriate for running and sporting activities. Sneakers are normally best.
- If your child is not feeling well, please keep them at home. Before coming to school, your child must be symptom free for a full 24 hours without the use of medication (i.e. no fever, no vomiting, no diarrhea). Please review the BASD sick policy.
- Injuries: If your child arrives at school with any type of restrictive device (i.e. casts, slings, braces, etc.), please notify the school nurses as soon as possible jthomas@boyertownasd.org and pmcshane@boyertownasd.org. If you would like to speak to the nurse directly, please call 610-473-5070.
- A doctor's letter must be provided so the school is aware of any restrictions. Please send this information directly to the nurse.
- An activity clearance letter also needs to be submitted by your child’s doctor before they are allowed to resume normal activities.
- If the school does not receive information from your child’s doctor, the highest restriction level will be implemented.
● If your child is in Kindergarten, or new to the district, please make sure that the nurse has all of the required health information (Private Physical Exam form, Family Dental Exam form, and all required immunizations with the correct spacing). If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse. If the school is missing any information, you should have received an email requesting the needed documentation.
● Mandated Health Screens: See the district’s policy regarding the mandated health screens. The school nurse will begin screenings during the month of October.
● Please remind your child(ren) not to share lunch and/or snacks. There are several students with food allergies and/or food sensitivities.
● Please remind your child(ren) to come to school with a refillable water bottle each day. There are water refilling stations in the student halls.
● If food items are brought in by students for birthday celebrations, they must be pre-packed with all allergen information listed.
● Please keep a spare change of clothing in your child’s backpack for lunchroom spills and accidents. Although we have some clothing in the health room, we have limited sizes and selection.
● If your child requires medication during the school day (including prescription and over the counter (OTC) medication), please complete the district’s medication administration form. New orders are required each school year.
● 3rd graders will need to provide the Family Dental Form. Dental visits completed after July 1, 2024 are acceptable for this requirement.
If you have any questions, please contact the health room nurse at 610-473-5070.

Important Attendance Request Reminders...
On August 20th, we shared a message with our families regarding new attendance reporting procedures through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. We are happy to report that the transition to the new reporting platform has gone smoothly, and we truly appreciate your patience and cooperation!
We have a few reminders that will help simplify the process for all of you.
1. Please report ALL Absence Requests through the IC Parent Portal including full day absences, late arrivals, leaving early, and Educational Trip Requests.
2. An Absence Reason is REQUIRED when completing the Absence Request. In order for the request to be coded accurately, the reason for the absence must be SPECIFIC. The reason should be entered in the comment section.
2. An Absence Request for an Educational Trip REQUIRES TWO STEPS. The first is the submission of the Absence Request in Infinite Campus. The second is completion of the Educational Trip Form. Your Educational Trip Request CANNOT be approved until BOTH steps are completed.
3. When submitting an Absence Request for leaving early, please indicate the name of the person who will be picking up the student in the comments field. This information is REQUIRED for our security processes.
Thank you for your attention to this important update. We appreciate your cooperation!

We will be following a 6-day cycle for school this year. Your child's special schedule will be based on the cycle days rather than days of the week. For your planning, the next week of school cycle days are listed below.
Week of November 17
Monday-Day 3
Tuesday-Day 4
Wednesday- Day 5
Thursday-Day 6
Friday-Day 1
