Leadership Letter
Dear Legacy Families,
August is such an exciting time for us here at Legacy! As the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, this is one of my favorite times of the year because of all the benchmark testing. Now, some may think I'm a little crazy for my love of data– and this wasn’t always the case for me– but early on in my life as a teacher, I learned to love the information assessments would give me about my students. From enrichment and acceleration to reteaching and adjusting lessons that would more adequately fit their individual needs, it was empowering to have such insight! As an administrator, I appreciate it even more because it guides so many of our organizational-level curricular and instructional decisions, allowing us to ensure we are providing excellence in academics to all of our students.
As of this week, we have completed our beginning of year benchmarks for Acadience and NWEA MAP. Teachers will now begin analyzing the data from these assessments and creating plans to meet your child’s academic needs. Family reports will be sent home in the coming weeks, and you are always welcome to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions about how they are doing this year.
Cheers to the starting line of the 2026/27 school year!
Anna Bengtsson
CIA Director

Volunteers Needed for Lost and Found
We’re looking for a few volunteers to help sort and organize our Lost and Found once a week. As you can imagine, things pile up quickly, and we’d love to get everything organized so items can be returned to students. Please label your child’s items so they can be easily found. Items that are not labeled and not claimed are donated several times a year. If interested, please email vickey.harjo@legacyk8.org.
Before and After School (BAS) Program
Looking for care for your child before and after school? Check out Legacy's BAS Program! More information and registration forms can be found by clicking the link below.
Waitlist
Please put your younger children on the waitlist as our waitlist is growing every day. Please ensure any siblings of Legacy Academy students are on our waitlist.
Wildcat Family Yard Sign
Looking for a way to show your school spirit? Show your Wildcat pride by donating $10 (will count for DOUBLE volunteer hours) and putting a sign in your yard! Stop by the front office to pick one up!
Getting Ready to Volunteer at Legacy?
Want to volunteer at the school? Make sure you meet Legacy's requirements:
1) Background check, the fee is $6, valid driver license (or other approved form of identification). It requires 48 hours to process.
2) Attend a 5 minute meeting to discuss volunteer/chaperone responsibilities. A quick overview will be held before each field trip/class party/event.
Please stop by the office, at your convenience, to complete your background check. A background check is required every school year. Please allow our office staff 48 hours to process. If you come in for your background the day of the event - you will not be able to volunteer.
Running background checks on volunteers helps ensure a safe and positive experience for volunteers, teachers, students and parents. Safety remains our top priority, we appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding.
Hearing and Vision Screening
Vision and Hearing Screenings are scheduled for Wednesday, September 23rd and Thursday, September 24th from 8am to 3pm. We can use volunteers each day. We will train you if necessary! If you are interested in volunteering, please email jenny.jobes@legacyk8.org.
For other health concerns or questions please email the health office at healthoffice@legacyk8.org.
Special Welcome to Legacy’s Kindergarten Wildcats!
Our kindergarteners are officially Wildcats. Thank you to our PTCO board directors, Danielle Griffith and Calla Walker for helping make the kindergarten signing a memorable experience for our youngest Wildcats. Parents should have received their child’s certificates and a picture.
Nerf Night
Our first Nerf Night is Saturday, Sept 12th from 5:30- 8pm. The cost is $15.00 per person. Nerf Night is for Legacy families only. Participants must be 7 and up (6-year-olds may play if a parent is in the gym with them). This is an excellent time for families to play together as parents are invited to play as well. Bring your own blasters to the event (we do not provide blasters) but please do not bring darts or discs. Students are not allowed to bring blasters during school hours. Protective eye wear and darts are provided. Parents will be required to sign a waiver prior to this event; no exceptions will be made. Come enjoy a fun night with your Legacy friends and family.
The sign up link for parents to volunteer or donate concession items is below. We will need help setting up, tearing down, and a few judges. Any parents that donate food or time may apply it to their volunteer hours.
Doors will open at 5:15pm. Players/parents will not be permitted in the building until 5:15pm unless you are helping set up. Parents must come inside and sign the 26-27 waiver. Students may not participate without a current waiver.
The darts and rival balls are provided. We do not allow hyper balls. If you are purchasing a new blaster, keep in mind that we will phase out the darts next school year. The darts don’t hold up. Only the rival balls will be allowed.
Literacy Summer Reading Foam Party
Our students worked hard all summer to keep their reading skills strong, and we celebrated that dedication at the Foam Party. Shout out to all of our volunteers of the week: Jason and Danielle Griffith, Cameron and Nischel Cornella and Mr. Kenny

"Paws"itivity Store (Formerly R.O.A.R. Store)
Our R.O.A.R. Store has a new name! The store will now be called “Paws”itivity Shop
If you would like to volunteer to work the store please see the sign up link below.
What is Legacy’s "Paws"itivity Program?
Legacy Academy focuses on the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of our students. Character education in schools can have an impact on a student’s social skills, work ethic, and general well-being. While our students’ character foundation, moral and ethical compass begins at home, Legacy believes it is beneficial to continue the emphasis on character education in our school for improved academics through positive classroom behavior. Character education is a crucial element of the overall success of our students. Each month, we will focus on a specific character trait with students. These include the importance of respect, responsibility, teamwork, compassion, empathy, integrity, honesty, cooperation, perseverance, resilience, being a leader and courtesy.
Each month our teachers in grades K-5 select one student per class that has consistently displayed the monthly trait to receive a "Paws"itivity t-shirt and certificate.
The middle school teachers select students that consistently display the monthly trait to receive their T.W.I.X. (Together We Intentionally eXcel) award and a t-shirt. Our generous parents donate items for our "Paws"itivity Shop. Parent volunteers run the shop (a signup genius will be sent out monthly for volunteers).
Teachers pass out "Paws"itivity tickets or TWIX tickets when they see students exhibiting our character traits. We love when our students demonstrate The Legacy Way.
