Principal's Welcome
Happy Sunday, Grey Wolves!
It’s feeling a lot like fall here at Shoemaker. This week we pause to honor those who’ve served our country with Veterans Day on Tuesday, November 11. Students will enjoy a two-day break on Monday and Tuesday, returning to campus Wednesday through Friday for a short but busy week!
We’re proud to have our Shoemaker students representing Grey Wolf Nation in the Killeen Veterans Day Parade as we celebrate and honor our local heroes who protect our freedoms every day.

The Amazing Book Journey
October 1st our District-wide Reading Contest kicks off. We are competing against the other district high schools to have the most minutes read. Last year Shoemaker came in 1st place. We would very much like to maintain that title. Anybody can participate. All you have to do is read something you enjoy and record your minutes in the Beanstack app on Clever. Just about anything counts: books, e-books, audiobooks, textbooks, magazines, newspapers. All Reading is Good Reading in this competition. YOUR GOAL IS TO READ 4,000 MINUTES BY JANUARY 16. For every 300 minutes you read, you'll receive a PRIZE. PRIZES are handed out in the library on Thursdays at lunch and after school.
Design you Book Challenge T-Shirt
Create a t-shirt design for our theme, The Amazing Book Journey. Campus winners will compete against the five winners from the other high schools. The district winner will see their design on over 100 individuals in our district competition. That competition also kicks off on October 1. Designs are due to the library by November 21.
· Designs should fill an 8.5"x11" sheet of paper.
· Digital designs should be saved as a PDF.
· Designs should use no more than 3 colors - 4 if the color of the t-shirt is part of your design.
If you have questions about ANYTHING, drop by the library or send us an e-mail.

Athletic Information
The Texas Way - A reminder from KISD Athletic Department
Over the past few weeks, we have observed an increase in instances of inappropriate behavior from parents and spectators at our athletic events. As a reminder, KISD has adopted the Texas Way initiative as our guiding framework for athletic competitions. This includes the 2Words / Texas Way curriculum, which has been implemented with our coaches and student-athletes.
This curriculum, in partnership with the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) and the University Interscholastic League (UIL), is designed to foster a positive and respectful gameday environment. While we are making meaningful progress with our students and coaching staff, we recognize that continued efforts are needed to engage and educate our parent community.

Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has officially announced Free College Application Week (https://www.mytexasfuture.org/middle-high-school/appy-to-college/), set to take place October 13-19, 2025. This new annual initiative allows Texas residents to apply to all public colleges and universities in the state without paying application fees.
This section will be filled as new information is given to the campus.
Important Reminders:
Tardy Policy:
Please encourage your student to arrive on time to their classes to avoid any disruptions. We’ve implemented a 30-second reminder before the tardy bell to help students get to class on time.Student IDs:
All students must have their ID visible at all times—worn around the neck, not on backpacks or around the waist. This is crucial for maintaining campus security.Early Release Students:
Students with early release Must leave campus when they do not have classes. A student who stays on campus and is found wandering the hall may loose their early release. Roaming the hallways is not permitted for safety reasons.Missed Bus to KCC/CTC: If your student misses the bus, they should notify the front office, and we will assist in resolving the situation. However, if the situation cannot be resolved, students must stay in the library until their next class on campus begins. Roaming the hallways is not permitted for safety reasons.
Cell Phone and Electronic Devices Policy: Yondr Pouches will be used for electronic devises such as cell phones. Students may not display, turn on, or use phones or other personal electronic devices during instructional hours 8:00 am -4:20 pm, Monday through Friday.
This includes using personal devices for texting, calling, video recording, using headphones or personal earbuds, and charging personal devices on school property.
· Students may not bring personal laptops, iPads, tablets, or similar personal computing devices to school.
Headphones or earbuds that cannot be locked into a Yondr pouch—such as Beats-style over-ear headphones—are not allowed on campus.

Better Together - Teamwork
What is Teamwork?
Teamwork is the ability to work in unity with others towards a common goal. For us to learn how to become team players, it is important that we learn to listen, encourage our peers, and allow and invite others to contribute their talents and skills.
Why focus on Teamwork?
- Teamwork improves communication: Teamwork helps us improve our verbal and non-verbal communication skills, conveying that we care and a relevant message.
- Teamwork builds interpersonal awareness: Growing a great team requires us to first build strong relationships through a better understanding of ourselves and others.
- Teamwork celebrates diversity. Teamwork thrives from diverse ideas that come from a mixture of different genders, cultures, expertise, experience, and problem-solving approaches.
Teamwork in Action:
- Call them a team, not a class or group. A group consists of many different people. A team, however, has a common purpose and a shared responsibility for success.
- Require teams to set expectations for and manage their own behavior. Do not tell teams what type of behavior is expected—let them decide for themselves with a Social Contract.
- Teach and encourage affirmations. Giving affirmations helps connect the team, builds trust, promotes engagement, and boosts a positive culture.
