Classroom Birthday Treats
All classroom/birthday treats must be pre-packaged and store-bought with the ingredients clearly written on the label. If possible, please be sure treats are of the same type (same flavor, no icing, all icing, etc.). Treats such as popsicles that need refrigeration will not be accepted.
For the safety of all students, DO NOT send in any nut products as there may be students in the class with nut allergies. Please read your snack labels and DO NOT send in snacks that state: "Manufactured in a factory containing nut products" or "May contain allergens".
Security and Sign In Procedures
In order to enter the school, all visitors are required to buzz the office by pushing the silver button located to the left of the visitor door. Once you are buzzed into the building, please report to the office to sign in and pick up a visitor or volunteer badge. Please be sure to carry photo ID with you whenever you are on school property. Deliveries of any kind (forgotten homework, birthday treats, lunches) are to be made directly to the office only, not to the classroom.
From the Nurse's Desk - August
Nurse Wilson and Nurse Kovach are excited to welcome you to the 2026/2027 school year, so let’s review some information about the NHUF Health Office!
Medication at School – All medication administered during the school day (including prescription and over the counter medication), requires a doctor’s order. Please complete the district’s Medication Authorization form. Orders for the 2026/2027 school year must be dated on or after July 1, 2026.
Emergency Care Plans/Medication – If your child has a health condition or severe allergy that requires an Emergency Action Plan, please review the district’s Health Services tab with the necessary documents that need to be submitted. New action plans and medication orders are required each school year, even if the order has not changed. For the 2026/2027 school year, all Emergency Action Plans and medication orders must be dated on or after July 1, 2026.
Immunizations – All students must adhere to the Pennsylvania School Immunization Regulation and Schedule. If these requirements are not met, your child in grades K-5 must receive the immunization(s) within the first five days of school or risk exclusion (except where noted differently). If the next dose is not the final dose of the series, you must also provide a medical certificate/plan signed by your physician within the first five days of school for obtaining the required immunizations or risk exclusion. Please review the Health Services section of the 2026/2027 Student Handbook for more information.
Sick Policy – If your child is not feeling well, please keep them home from school. Please review the Health Services section of the 2026/2027 Student Handbook.
Type 1 Diabetes Information - Please review Health Services section of the 2026/2027 Student Handbook for information regarding Type 1 Diabetes awareness, warning signs, and risk factors.
Injuries and Assistive Devices –If crutches, a cast or splint or any other assistive device are needed for an injury, please provide documentation from the medical provider and the length of time the devices are needed. The student will be excluded from PE and recess while using any devices, splints, or Ace bandages. The student can return to PE and recess when written documentation is received from the doctor/provider. If you have any questions, please contact the nurses.
Birthday Celebrations – If food items are brought in by students for birthday celebrations, they must be pre-packed with all allergen information clearly listed. Students with food allergies should also keep a “special treat” at school. Please avoid snacks/treats that have peanuts or tree nuts, as there are many students with allergies.
Sharing Food Items – Please remind your child(ren) not to share lunch and/or snacks. There are several students with food allergies and/or food sensitivities.
Water Bottles – Please remind your child to come to school with a refillable water bottle each day. Water bottle refilling stations are available in the student hallways. The Health Office does not supply water bottles to students.
Comfortable Shoes – Students should wear closed toe and comfortable shoes to school (please discourage crocs and sandals). The students will be outside for recess if the weather allows and sneakers are always best!
Spare Clothing – Students should keep a spare change of clothing in their backpacks. Although we have some clothing in the heath room, we have limited sizes and selection.
Third Graders – Per Pennsylvania guidelines, all incoming 3rd graders will need to provide proof of a dental exam. Dental visits completed on/after July 1, 2025, are acceptable for this requirement.
Kindergarten/New Students – All Kindergarten and new students must provide documentation of all required vaccinations. A Family Dental Form dated on or after July 1, 2025, and a Private Physical Exam Form dated on or after July 1, 2025 are also required.
Head Lice – Although lice cannot jump, they are easily transmitted through hugging, sharing combs, sharing hats and coats, etc. Please remind your child(ren) not to share items and to be cognizant of personal space. Please review Health Services section of the 2026/2027 Student Handbook.
Tick Removal – Act 120 of 2024, which amended the Public-School Code of 1949- Health Services, requires a school nurse, school physician or designated employee of a school entity to remove a tick from a student in accordance with guidelines issued by the Secretary of Health. If a tick is removed from a student while at school the school nurse will remove and preserve the tick to send home on the Health Room Tick Reporting Form. Interested families can send the preserved tick to the Tick Research Lab of Pennsylvania for testing if desired. More information and resources regarding ticks can be found at the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s website.
AEDs –There are 3 AEDs at NHUF:
○ Outside of the Main Office
○ Outside of the Gym
○ In the Kindergarten hallway
LIFEVAC – A LIFEVAC choking device is available in the cafeteria
Please include both nurses when emailing the Health Office: dwilson@boyertownasd.org and ekovach@boyertownasd.org
We understand this is a lot of information, so if you have any questions, please let us know.
We are looking forward to a wonderful year!
