First Year Students Study Choice Theory
By Dr. William Glasser
Choice Theory states: All behavior is chosen, your behavior is your best effort to get what you want to meet your five basic needs of:
Survival - (food, shelter, clothig)
Love and Belonging
Fun
Freedom (to make choices)
Power (not power over - power within).
Glasser says ask yourself two questions:
Is what I am doing working?
If not, what can I do differently?

Introduction of Student Resource Officer
Officer Sara Gleason
Welcome back for another year Mavericks! As we begin another school year here at Mott Middle College, I would like to take the time to introduce myself. I have been the School Resource Officer here at Mott Middle College since 2024 when my family moved to Flint from Battle Creek. I was born, raised, and resided in Battle Creek for the majority of my life.
After the unexpected loss of my father in 2010 and my mother in 2011, I channeled all of my energy into work and my education. I was accepted into my local community college and got right to work. While attending college, I worked at the high school in my district as an administrative assistant in the main office, before eventually becoming employed by the college I was attending. I eventually obtained an associate’s degree in General Studies and the following year, an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice. After graduating college, I applied to the Kellogg Community College Police Academy and upon completion obtained my associates degree in Law Enforcement. After graduating from the Police Academy, I was employed by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department where I was a part of the road patrol division.
While working at the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department I realized my goal was to eventually become a School Resource Officer. Due to my personal struggles during my high school years with the loss of my parents, I realized just how much students can be carrying without anyone ever noticing. I made it my goal to go back to what I knew, working in the school system, but bringing my law enforcement training and experience along with me.
It is an honor to be a part of Mott Middle College and witness the growth and accomplishments of our students each year. It is my goal to contribute to keeping their learning environment safe not only on a physical front, but the mental and emotional fronts as well.
Creating a safe place for our students to not only learn, but be their true and authentic selves is most important to me and my role here at Mott Middle College. I am very eager to see where this year takes us, and witness the great things I know our students will accomplish. Let’s make it a great year Mavericks!
Respectfully,
-Officer Gleason

MEET OUR ALUMNI
Quetzal Rivera Arranda
#1: I was a student at Mott Middle College from 2007-2010. I had such a learning experience at MMC. Every day felt like I was surrounded by family and people who wanted the same goals in life to succeed and flourish as I did. Every teacher challenged me in certain ways that helped me through life today!
#2: Since I left Mott Middle College I built myself up using the tips, learning techniques and developing skills I acquired there. As of today, I have become one of the most successful Master Barbers in Michigan. I compete with top barbers every year in competitions to reach the goals I dreamed of as I walked through the Mott Middle College hallways all those years ago.
#3: My advice to current students today is: Your dedication to your goals will be the key to your success..work hard and stay focused. Because where you stand is where you want to be…
