Principal’s Club Progress in Math & Reading

Students and staff have been focused and hard at work growing in the areas of math and reading. We had our largest showing of the semester today celebrating student growth in the areas of math and reading.

Students join the math club by mastering each level’s math facts. Student growth in reading is tracked through reading level growth in our younger grades and mastery of essential standards as reading skills develop and become more rigorous.

We are so proud of our Rogers’ scholars!

Reminders about Phones and Smart Watches for Students

As a reminder, our district has a policy for student cell phones and smart watches. While students may have these devices on campus, they must be turned off and put away in backpacks. Please take a moment to review the excerpts from the FISD Student Handbook.

Frisco ISD Student Handbook (excerpts from pages 53-54)

Electronic Devices and Technology Resources (All Grade Levels)

Possession and Use of Personal Telecommunications Devices, Including Cell Phones, and Other Electronic Devices (Apple Watches, Airpods, etc.)

The district permits students to possess personal cell phones for safety purposes; however, these devices must remain turned off during the instructional day.

If a student uses such a device, leaves the device turned on, or displays the device without authorization, it will result in confiscation of the device. The device will only be returned to a parent or guardian.

■ The first offense will result in the phone/watch/tablet being taken up and returned to the parent with a warning for the student/parent.

■ The second offense will result in a $15 fine being required before the phone/watch/tablet is returned to the parent.

■ The third offense will result in an additional $15 fine being required before the phone/watch/tablet is returned to the parent.

■ A fourth offense will result in the phone/watch/tablet being confiscated for the remainder of the school year and an additional $15 fee being required for the return.

Parents will be notified within two school days after the device has been confiscated and may set a time to pick up the device and pay the fine if applicable.

If the parent refuses to pick up the phone or pay the fine, the company whose name and address appear on the device will be notified if applicable.

Any disciplinary action will be in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. The district is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen telecommunications devices.

Lost and Found Items

Our Rogers students have forgotten many items around campus lately! We have quite a collection of student jackets, hoodies, etc. in the cafe.

Please remember to label winter coats, sweaters and hoodies for your student. It helps us return items to students. We have many nice and new items unclaimed. We have been encouraging students to check the Lost and Found this week for any missing personal items.

Reminder - IDs Are Required For All Visitors To Campus

In a continuous effort to maintain the highest level of safety and security for students on our campus, Frisco ISD requires that all visitors present an ID when coming to campus.

This is true for parents picking up sick students, parents checking students out for appointments, and parents coming for lunch, Mystery Reader, or GMR. Thank you for your understanding as we continue to make Rogers Elementary a safe and secure place for students and staff to learn.

1st Grade CogAT Testing

On Wednesday, January 25th and Thursday January 26th Rogers’ First Graders will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). The test will be given over 2 days for approximately 1.5 hours (this time includes breaks). Please schedule morning appointments on days other than CogAT testing. The CogAT test gives teachers and parents a snapshot of students’ higher level thinking, reasoning, and problem solving abilities (verbal, nonverbal, quantitative, and overall ability), as compared to other first graders in the nation. Please be sure your first grader has a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast on this day. Please encourage your child with a hug, a reminder to listen carefully the first time, and to do their “Personal Best” on the test.

Mystery Reader Program Sign Up

A Mystery Reader program is a guest reader, BUT their identity is kept secret to build anticipation and excitement. Teachers may even choose to give clues before they arrive to get the students extra excited!

FISD Board Policy requires that each volunteer and/or mentor undergo a background check before working with students. You will be prompted to complete the background check during your VOLY account creation process. Keep an eye on your inbox for your background check approval (the process can take up to 3-5 business days). Once approved, you will be able to sign up directly for volunteer opportunities through the VOLY platform. To volunteer at Rogers Elementary, you will need to create a VOLY account by visiting https://friscoisd.voly.org.

5th Grade Parent Information

During Guidance this month, 5th grade students will start academic advising to get them ready for middle school. They will be using Myers Briggs’ personality questions to allow them to get to know themselves better. This will help with academic planning as they prepare to go to middle school. Also, Ms. Bocian will meet with the students to discuss strengths, weaknesses, and goals, and the students will start to think about which classes they might want to take in 6th grade. The middle school counselors will be coming to Rogers in January to give the students more information. Here is the information I will be sharing with the students. Parents, please check it out!
