New Online Tool Coming Soon for Youth Work Permits
The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity is preparing to launch the new Youth Employment Permit Portal, a centralized online system that will modernize the state’s youth employment permit process and make it more convenient and accessible for minors, families and employers. Local school districts and nonpublic schools will no longer issue youth employment permits.
Beginning Oct. 2, employers and minors will use the new portal to complete the youth employment permit process through one statewide system. To help employers, schools, families and other stakeholders prepare for the transition, the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity will host a Youth Employment Permit Portal webinar on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 2–3:30 p.m. ET. For additional information and updates, visit Michigan.gov/YouthEmployment.
Celebration Station: Wood Shop
Mr. Russell is working hard with his studens in his Furniture and Outdoor Furniture classes. Bryce VanEffen is in the process of making a log cabin(Rustic) style sofa table. Wyatt VanAlstine, Jax Curtiss, and Bennett Payne making a form to build steam bent trout nets. Great work to all!
Celebration Station: Modern Storytelling
The new Modern Storytelling: True Crime & Mysteries began the year diving into the psychology behind why people are interested in true crime, followed by creating an Ethical True Crime Agreement to guide our class throughout the trimester. As a class, students agreed to "respect everyone involved in the story (fictional or real) and approach the stories with open minds to take in all sides and be mature while studying different stories". Research is an important component in a class like this, which took us to our next focus: Crimes that Changed America. Students researched different crimes and what was changed in our country because of each case. We learned why the Amber Alert was created, how 911 became a universal emergency number, why medications like Tyenol have tamper-proof packaging, and more. Today students presented their research to each other in a gallery walk to learn about how the past impacted the present world.
