Physical Education Newsletter September

Welcome to Physical Education!

We are excited to continue helping our students build healthy habits, develop movement skills, and have fun being active. Thank you for partnering with us to support your child's success in PE.

Important Reminders

Tie Those Shoelaces!

Students are learning how to properly tie their shoelaces. Securely tied shoes help keep everyone safe and ready to participate in physical activities.

Label Water Bottles

Please make sure your child brings a water bottle to PE each day and that it is clearly labeled with their name. Staying hydrated is important for learning and exercise.

Healthy Nutrition Matters

Encourage your child to make healthy food choices by eating a variety of fruits and vegetables every day. Good nutrition helps students stay energized and ready to learn.

Exercise Every Day

Daily physical activity helps students develop strong bodies, healthy hearts, and positive attitudes. Encourage your child to stay active at home by walking, running, playing outside, or participating in sports and recreational activities.

What We Are Learning

Locomotor Movements

Our current focus is on locomotor movements, which help students move safely and efficiently through space. Students are practicing:

  • Walking, running, skipping, hop, jumping, gallop

These fundamental skills build the foundation for lifelong physical activity and participation in sports.

Manipulative Skills

Students are also developing manipulative skills, which involve controlling objects with different body parts. These skills help improve coordination, confidence, and overall physical development.

Fitness gram Information

Third and fourth grade students will participate in Fitness gram assessments. To help students be successful, please encourage them to practice:

  • Push-ups
  • Curl-ups
  • Running and cardiovascular endurance activities

Regular practice helps students improve their fitness levels and build confidence.

Safety First

We continue to emphasize the importance of safety in all physical activities. Students are learning how to exercise responsibly, follow directions, and make safe choices during PE class.

Positive Affirmations

We encourage students to use positive affirmations and kind words. Building confidence and supporting one another helps create a positive learning environment where everyone can succeed.

Working Together as a Team

We appreciate your continued support. By working together, we can help students develop healthy habits, strong character, and a love for physical activity.

  • 2nd grade is learning about instrument families and reading rhythm notation.
  • 3rd graders have learned about instruments of the orchestra, and are getting ready to start mallet instruments!

Choir: Please consider letting your 3rd or 4th grader join the Rees Choir! We will be sending home info soon. These highly motivated students will meet every Thursday after school to rehearse. They will be working on performance pieces for our performance at the Alief Holiday Market and Winter Showcase Concert in December! Thank you for allowing them to be a part of this musical experience.

Recorders: All 3rd and 4th graders will be playing recorders this year. If they have one at home already, please have them bring it to school. There will be a link to purchase one on SchoolCash soon.

Theatre Theatre

  • September- In Theatre, we learn about the lives of individuals through storytelling-dialogue and monologues.

Dialogue is when two or more people speak.

A monologue is where one person speaks. Kinder:

Monologues help the listener understand how the character is feeling. It gives clues about the time and location of where the action takes place. I will read a different monologue each time your child enters my classroom. We will discover how a person can use his/her body to express the actions within the monologue. Students will also participate in reading and acting out dialogue- talking back and forth with one another. This activity works for all ages.

Grade K-1: Students will grow their reading skills by listening to me demonstrate how to read monologues. They will mimic some of the performance tools. They will also enjoy reading dialogues with me and friends.

Grade 2-4: Students will listen to monologues, perform dialogues with friends and even write their very own monologue.

Fall Auditions for Rees Theatre Company are Wednesday, September 3, 2026
