Principal's Note
September 29 - October 3, 2025
Dear Parents and Families,
Welcome to October (ALMOST)!
We have a busy and exciting month ahead at Marysville Elementary.
Please do not forget that this week is Homecoming Week at Marysville Junior/Senior High--we have dress up day (see below what each day entails) and on Friday, October 3rd, the entire district will be releasing early at 1:15 PM in order for the community to attend the homecoming parade downtown. Friday, October 3rd, will also be our all-school picnic. If you'd like to join your child or grandchild for lunch, please call the office at 785-562-3641. We'd love to have you!
Parent/Teacher Conferences – Wednesday, October 8th
We encourage all families to attend conferences on October 8th. These meetings provide a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, discuss their progress, and collaborate on strategies to support their learning and growth. Your involvement is key to helping students succeed academically and socially.
No School – Friday, October 10th
The district will have no school on Friday, October 10th.
Fire Prevention Week – October 6-10
During Fire Prevention Week, we are excited to welcome Dave Bruna, who will present to students about fire safety and the importance of knowing how to respond in emergency situations. This is a fun and important opportunity for students to learn safety skills that could save lives.
End of First Quarter – Thursday, October 17th
October 17th marks the end of our first quarter. Students will not have school this day, as staff will engage in professional development in the morning and complete work in the afternoon to finalize grades. These days are essential for teachers to reflect, plan, and ensure each student’s learning is accurately assessed and supported.
Red Ribbon Week – October 27-31
We will celebrate Red Ribbon Week during the last week of October to promote healthy choices and positive decision-making among our students.
Picture Retakes – Tuesday, October 28th
If your child missed the first picture day or you would like a retake, our Picture Retake Day is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28th.
We are grateful for the support of our school community. Together, we continue to focus on our students’ growth, learning, and safety. Thank you for partnering with us to make Marysville Elementary a place where every child can thrive.
Warm regards,

October is National Sensory Awareness Month
MES Student Support Center
How to support individuals with sensory needs
People exhibit eight areas of sensory needs: proprioception, vestibular, visual, olfactory, tactile, auditory, oral, and interoceptive. Everyone has an area that they seek more than others. I am a tactile seeker. When I am out shopping I feel the clothing as I walk by and pick items up. In the classroom I fidget with a pen. You may have oral sensory needs and fill those naturally by chewing gum throughout the day and drinking out of straws. Our students have sensory needs too and don’t always know the best way to fulfill those needs. If your child craves fast and intense movement, or appears overactive, their body is seeking vestibular input. In the Student Support Center we can help students fulfill that need in a safe and productive way by spinning on a swing, using an exercise trampoline, or utilizing balance boards. These students can also use the monkeybars on the playground or hang upside down at recess to help fill this need. In the classroom, teachers can use a dance brain break to help these students. If your child presses down on hard surfaces, plays roughly, shakes their feet, or appears clumsy they may benefit from proprioception activities. The Student Support Center has rollers, weighted lap pads, sensory walks, a bridge, and other tools to support their deep pressure needs. Everything in the Student Support Center serves a purpose and we have a menu of options for all eight sensory areas from lessons on mindfulness and emotions to essential oils, and the gross motor movement opportunities described, we are here to support all students to be more successful in the classroom.

25-26 MARYSVILLE ELEMENTARY STUDENT/PARENT HANDBOOK
25/26 MES Parent Handbook
Our Parent Handbook is an important resource that outlines the expectations, policies, and procedures for the school year. It includes information about academics, attendance, behavior expectations, communication, and ways families can stay engaged in their child’s learning.
We ask that families review the handbook occasionally so that everyone is familiar with our school guidelines. Please continue to reference it throughout the year whenever questions arise. Working together, we can ensure a safe, supportive, and successful school experience for every child.
Reminder About Bus Lane Parking
For the safety of our students, please do not park in the bus lane at any time. If you plan to enter the building, we ask that you use the designated parking stalls or park on the other side of the cement/barricade wall. This ensures our buses or district vans transporting students to and from other schools have clear access and keeps drop-off and pick-up running smoothly. Thank you for your cooperation!

Character Strong – Responsibility - Week 1
Our focus this month is on Responsibility! This is a big word, but an important one. Responsibility means taking action and understanding the impact of our choices. This can mean lots of things, but mostly it’s about choosing actions that lead to good outcomes - like caring for a pet, turning in your work, being Kind to a new student, or standing up for what is right.
