January 2025

Dear Dr. Green Families,

It's unbelievable how quick this January month has come and it is almost gone! First and foremost, I would like to wish everyone the best year ever and welcome our new families to Dr. Green Elementary. Our common goal at Dr. Green is providing the best academic and social opportunities for our students to thrive in addition to providing ongoing support to our families.

Our second semester will be a busy one. This is the time for some academic progress check-ins. We have been assessing our K-5 students reading and math skills with our Middle of the Year (MOY) assessments. Additionally, first grade students are being screened for reading difficulties including dyslexia. Some of our K-1st students will also be taking the GT qualifying assessment if parents or teachers submitted their request. Our teachers will also be preparing our students in grades 3-5 for the upcoming reading, math and science STAAR state tests happening in April and May.

We continue providing afterschool tutoring and afterschool extra-curricular activities such as school clubs, choir, cheer spirit and intramurals. These activities have been truly amazing for students, they are fun and help motivate students to come to school and socialize with other students and teachers. Thank you parents for flexing your schedules and arranging your time for prompt pick up.

Our attendance GOAL is: 96% or higher

Our current attendance rate decreased to 92.77%. Please help us reach our goal and send your children to school. If you believe we can provide you with any type of support for your children to come to school, please reach out to us. We are here to help you and your children.

Congratulations goes to the following Faculty and Staff members:

Campus Teacher of the Year Award: Mrs. Yvette White.

Mrs. White is a fabulous Kindergarten teacher. Her everyday dedication and caring for her students has earned the respect and admiration of colleagues, students and families.

Campus Educational Support Personnel of the Year Award:

Ms. Elia Hernandez.

Ms. Hernandez is our PEIMS/Attendance Clerk. She ensures that families, students and teachers are well supported upon reporting absences and attendance is recorded efficiently and on time.

Congratulations to these amazing ladies!

This week we are having 3 fun additional activities.

1. To boost our ongoing Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program in our school, we will have a PBIS Spirit week inviting all students to dress up according to the schedule posted below. Each day we will be celebrating each of the PBIS components. Monday is all about being Positive, Tuesday, Kindness is the word, Wednesday goes for Be Safe, Thursday, show Respect and Friday being Responsible is the key. Additionally, on Friday is our 100th day of school and children are invited to dress up as a 100 year old person.

I would like to close with this quote as our pledge to you:

Comprehension

This month we will be focusing on helping our readers ask good questions as they read. Here are some ideas:

  • What are you wondering? (The title, the cover illustration, what the book will be about, and where the story is taking place)

  • What do you think will happen next?

  • This part is confusing. Let's go back and reread to understand.

  • I wonder why the character did that?

  • What will the character do now?

  • What could be a new ending for this book?
