BMS Student Attendance Week Ending 9/25: 94.8%! BMS Student Attendance Week Ending 9/25: 94.8%!

Burgaw Middle School had a great week, with attendance improving to 94.8%! Regular attendance matters because students learn best when they are present, on time, and able to fully participate throughout the school day. We certainly do not want students at school when they are sick; however, we encourage students to attend each day when they are healthy and able. So far this school year, BMS has recorded 318 absences. Thank you for partnering with us to make every day and every minute count—keep up the great work!

Support BMS at Junior’s Deli! Support BMS at Junior’s Deli!

Burgaw Middle School is excited to partner with Junior’s Deli for a schoolwide fundraiser on Friday, October 2, from 11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. Enjoy a great meal while supporting BMS—Junior’s Deli will donate a percentage of sales back to our school.

Please mention BMS when ordering or present the fundraiser flyer. Your support will help provide resources and opportunities for our students and staff as we continue building school support following the disbandment of our PTO. Every bite makes a difference!

Classroom Spotlights! Classroom Spotlights!

Ms. King’s 6th Grade Mathematicians Explore Surface Area

Ms. King’s sixth-grade students explored surface area through a hands-on investigation of three-dimensional figures. Students created nets by unfolding each shape into its two-dimensional faces, measured the necessary dimensions, and calculated the area of each face. They then added the areas together to determine the total surface area, strengthening their understanding of how a 3D figure can be represented as a flat net.

BMS Athletics At a Glance BMS Athletics At a Glance

Student-Athlete Expectations

At Burgaw Middle School, we are proud to offer athletics and value the commitment of our student-athletes. At the same time, being a successful student must always come first. To remain eligible, students must meet county academic expectations by passing at least 70% of their classes and maintaining a 70% overall average; students with an F will be ineligible to participate until the grade improves. Grade checks will take place throughout each season.

Attendance also matters: students with excessive absences may be ineligible until their attendance improves, and students must be present for at least half of the school day to participate in practice or a game that day. Thank you for helping us reinforce that BMS student-athletes are students first, athletes second.
