Administrative Assertions

At ÉCCHS, students are encouraged to become involved in clubs, programs, athletics, and student-led activities. We offer a wide variety of fine arts programs, leadership groups, and teams for all students to explore their interests. Beyond the classroom learning environment, these types of connections foster social connections and positive experiences. Thanks to our students and staff for a strong start-up!

Congratulations to Parker Prusko on competing at Golf Provincials! Best wishes to our volleyball teams and cross-country runners on seasons of fun competition and skill development. We are grateful for our many volunteer coaches for their countless hours of working with our athletes. Thank you to our Student Council for organizing the back-to-school BBQ and thank you to the Media class for live-streaming morning announcements and other events.

Once again, student assessments will be reported digitally on PowerSchool in real-time so physical report cards will not be distributed. Parents can access their child’s academic progress through the PowerSchool parent portal and the phone application. We encourage parents to contact their child’s teachers if they have questions about their child’s learning. We welcome parents to attend our school council meeting on October 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Learning Commons. Also, Parent-Teacher Conferences are just around the corner. More information around these conferences will be shared via School Messenger in the upcoming weeks about how to sign up for a conference time.

As we move into October, we hope that you have the opportunity to give thanks for the positives in our lives.

Thanks to students, families, and staff for working together to support students in their learning.

Sandra Wills- Assistant Principal (Gr. 9 rep.)

Paula Neuman- Assistant Principal (Gr. 12 rep.)

Lockdown Drill

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

RE: Lockdown Drill

Battle River School Division emphasizes safe and caring schools. Part of providing a safe learning environment is helping students and staff be prepared for an emergency. Our school holds six fire drills each year and we will also be holding two lockdown drills – one in October and another in the spring.

A lockdown is when all the students and staff are tucked into their classrooms (or another safe, lockable area of the school) to avoid an intruder inside the building. This is not a situation we expect our schools to encounter but, just like a fire drill, practicing will help us all be better prepared if such an incident does occur. When we hold our lockdown drill, discussions will also take place with students in a calm, sensitive, age-appropriate way, so as not to generate anxiety or fear. If you’d like to give your children additional reassurance that they are safe at school and drills are what we do so we are prepared ‘just in case’, we would welcome your support. During a lockdown drill, the outside doors of the school will also be locked. If you should arrive at the school during the brief time our drill is taking place (either this month or in the spring) you will see a sign letting you know why you can’t get in. It is possible we will have police officers present for the drill, as well as representatives of the school division. Their role is to help us evaluate our preparedness and suggest any changes we might make in future drills.

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact me at (780) 672-4416 Extension #: 6708.

Sincerely,

Chad Kendall

Assistant Principal

Welcoming New Staff to the ÉCCHS Family Welcoming New Staff to the ÉCCHS Family

Ruth Mason-I am originally from Alberta but have had the opportunity of living in three beautiful provinces. The last five years I have been in Northern Quebec where my husband's family is from. There, I worked for the Western Quebec School board in many different facets. I am so excited to be back home in Alberta, closer to my family, and to have this opportunity as an Education Assistant for CCHS. I look forward to a great year ahead.

Lex Olson-I am the new ELL support touchstone for foreign exchange students. My background is centered in the humanities, with a degree in history and minors in philosophy and English. I have extensive tutoring experience, as well as recent teaching experience in northern BC. I love helping youth reach their full potential, and my passion centers around increasing literacy through hands on learning. My favorite activities are reading, writing, baking, and being near the mountains whenever I can.

Alicia Dewald - I am new to ECCHS but familiar with the school as I have a daughter in grade 11 and a son who graduated in June. My third child is in grade 6 at ECKS. I was raised in a small town near Swift Current, Saskatchewan. I’ve lived in Camrose for the past 18 years. I started out as an educational assistant in a preschool class at St. Patrick Catholic School. My interests include skiing, games, spending time with family and friends, and travelling. I love watching my daughter dance and cheering on my boys at their hockey games. I'm excited for the 2023-2024 school year!

Debra Stachniak- I have lived in Camrose for the last 23 years graduating from CCHS. After having my first child a year ago, I decided a career change from health care was needed which brought me here as a new Educational assistant in the SAIL room. When I am not working I like to be outdoors trying new things with family.

Kendra Rehaume- I grew up in Peace River, Alberta, but moved to Camrose after graduation. I jumped around quite a bit up until COVID hit and settled in my hometown of Hinton, Alberta where I began working as an Early Childhood Educator in the preschool program. From there I started to substitute as an Educational Assistant and have decided to further my education, within the education field through the University of British Columbia. Since moving back to Camrose this summer I’ve spent most of my free time at the golf course or driving range with my brothers. I am very excited to be working at ECCHS this year and learning lots as I navigate from elementary to high school.

Nigel Kendall-I grew up on a ranch about 20 minutes from Leduc. My first degree was a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Augustana here in Camrose. After going to live in Vancouver for about 14 months, I returned to Alberta. I then received my Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta. From 2009-2016, I had a great time coaching hockey in Camrose, Edmonton, and Leduc. Prior to coming to ECCHS, I taught for 6 years in Tofield. I am thrilled to be teaching humanities here at ECCHS! I live in Camrose with my wonderful wife and 2 dogs. We enjoy taking road trips to the foothills in the summer or early fall, try to take in concerts, and spend time with our families. I spend my free time enjoying hockey, music, movies, and reading stories.
zoom_out_map
Denis Forstbauer-I grew up in Chilliwack, BC on an organic vegetable farm before moving to Victoria to complete my education degree. I moved to Camrose with my family about 11 years ago and have been teaching middle and high school in Tofield for the past 10 years before coming to ÉCCHS where I am teaching math and science. Following in my roots I also own a small organic market garden farm where I get to play in soil, grow (and eat) all kinds of veggies. I have five kids, four cats and one dog. I enjoy being outside, playing sports, playing games, making and eating food! I am looking forward to making ÉCCHS my new home. GO TROJANS!!

  • The first fundraisers of the school year were launched last week. Panago Pizza coupons and Superstore/Save-on/Co-op gift cards are now available, with order forms posted in the Google Classroom for your child's Music class, and hardcopies in the Music Room. Due Oct 17. Remember: All your fundraising profits count toward your child's Music class fees for the year (see Music Handbook for details).
  • The Senior Band will participate in the Legion's Remembrance Day ceremony once again, on Saturday morning, November 11. We had a significant number of the Seniors participating last year, and we'd like to see that happen once again this year. Consider adapting any travel plans for the long weekend/November break so that your Grade 10-12 Band students can join us for this important event.
  • Links have been posted in the Google Classrooms so that families can order their child's uniform shirt and tie(s). Due to rising costs, we encourage parents to use the links provided. If your child needs to update their uniform for this year, please place your order(s) as soon as possible as students without the proper uniform are not allowed to perform.
