Lighthouse Moment

Dear Hubbard Woods Families,

As we wrap up our Month of Service and Learning (MOSAL), I want to take a moment to reflect on the impact of our Year of Birthdays partnership with Radical Generosity, our PTO, and the MOSAL committee, and to say thank you.

This work was truly a community effort. The generosity of our families made this possible, and I am so grateful for the way parents supported this initiative financially and with such trust and care. I also want to recognize the commitment of our MOSAL committee, made up of both staff and parents, whose time, thoughtfulness, and collaboration truly reflected the strength of our school community. Their work allowed this initiative to move from an idea to meaningful action for the 5th year!

I am incredibly proud of our students. They worked so thoughtfully to create more than 500 birthday bags, each one prepared with the hope that another child would feel seen and celebrated. In addition, our community collected nearly 800 pounds of food for individuals and families in need. These numbers are impressive, but what matters most is the care, empathy, and purpose behind them.

This Month of Service and Learning reflects our progressive values at Hubbard Woods. Students were not just doing an activity. They were engaged in meaningful and real-world learning. They asked questions, talked about dignity, equity, and equality, and connected their learning to action. They experienced what it means to be part of a community and to understand that their choices can have an impact beyond themselves.

This is the heart of our work: helping students learn not only academic skills, but how to care for others, work together, and take responsibility for the world around them. It is a powerful reminder of who we are as a school community.

Thank you for your generosity, your partnership, and the many ways you support this work every day.

Sincerely,

Ivory

In addition to the joy-filled cheers of students, the hallways were filled with Stevie Wonder’s Happy Birthday, a song closely connected to the federal recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1980.

This webinar will explain how The Winnetka Public Schools supports preschool-aged students by completing screenings and/or evaluations to determine eligibility for services. The session will also review what transitions to kindergarten look like for students with IEPs, including timelines and staffing.
