Principal's Message
It was wonderful to see so many of you at Curriculum Night! As Jenny and I shared in the gym, teaching and caring for the students at Hiteon is truly a community effort. Please click on the photo below to see our Curriculum Night presentation. We want to keep you connected to your child’s goals and successes, and we encourage you to ask your child about these each Friday. This weekly sharing is a practice for all of our students, K–5, and a great way to hear directly from your child about what’s going well and what they’re working toward.
To help keep you informed, you’ll also receive two newsletters from your child’s teacher each month, along with a Principal Letter and a PTO Newsletter. Please double-check your ParentSquare settings to be sure you’re receiving communication in the way that works best for you.
We also ask for your partnership in making school attendance a priority. Attendance is one of the strongest predictors of academic success, and we want every student to benefit fully from the excellent learning opportunities here at Hiteon. If you are ever struggling to get your child to school, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our school counselor, Sarah Chartz (sarah_chartz@beaverton.k12.or.us), or our social worker, Emma Ulring (emma_ulring@beaverton.k12.or.us). They are here to support you.
We wish you a year filled with growth, connection, and meaningful learning experiences.

Dear families,
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to build your child’s home library with new books they’ll dive into again and again.
Visit the link below starting on Monday September 15th to create an eWallet – it’s an easy way to let your child shop independently and it’s both easy to set up and easy for others to add funds.
More great news – you’ll have the option to contribute to Share the Fair - the giving program that supports students at our school who need help buying books. Consider participating so that no child leaves the Fair empty-handed!
Here’s everything else you need to know about the Book Fair:
Dates: Monday October 6th – Thursday October 9th (students will visit the book fair with their classroom – schedule coming soon)
Location: Hiteon Library
For full details, and to create an eWallet, visit our school’s Book Fair homepage by going to https://bit.ly/hesbookfair2025
More than ever, we need to get students reading. Studies prove* that children with more books at home have higher-level reading skills, and attain more years of education overall.
Lastly, this is a great opportunity to be a Book Fair volunteer! Watch your emails for the book fair class schedules and volunteer sign-ups. When you give your time, it helps make our Fair an unforgettable reading experience where every purchase benefits our school directly.
Happy reading,
Janet Maza

BSD TAG Information
TAG Information
As was announced at the end of last school year, the BSD is transitioning from using the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to the Naglieri General Abilities Tests (NGATs). This decision aligns with the BSD’s commitment to meet the needs of all students as described in our strategic plan.
In October 2025, BSD 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be screened for giftedness in their classrooms using one of three NGATs, unless families choose to request their children to be given the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT).
- 3rd grade students will take the Naglieri General Ability Test - Nonverbal.
- 4th grade students will take the Naglieri General Ability Test - Verbal
- 5th grade students will take the Naglieri General Ability Test - Quantitative
During this school year (2025-26), families who want to request that their student take the CogAT must complete this google form link. Requests must be submitted by September 22nd. Please remember, students cannot be tested with the CogAT in consecutive years, so if your child took the CogAT during the 2024-25 school year, they will not be allowed to take the CogAT again this year. As of the 2026-26 school year, the district will only use NGATs.
If your student is on vacation or ill when their class takes the NGAT, we will have a make-up day for all tests missed at the school. If your student misses the make-up test, they will not be tested this year. Exceptions may be made for 5th graders upon the discretion of the District TAG Coordinator.

Clothes for Kids Fundraiser on Sept 27th
Clothes for Kids Fundraiser
Sept 27th
District Support Center
The Clothes for Kids fall "Surplus Sale Fundraiser" will be held on Saturday, September 27 from 8a.m. to 4p.m. We'll be selling mostly adult-sized clothing donations that aren't suitable for the program. All items will be $1 each, CASH ONLY. Proceeds will go to support program needs, such as the purchase of new socks and underwear.
We're in need of volunteers to help with preparation and the actual sale itself. Volunteer shifts are available Friday to prepare for the sale, and on Saturday during the sale. On Saturday, the first shift will help with setup and the last shift will help with cleanup.
The event will be held at the District Support Center, 16550 SW Merlo Rd. in Beaverton, inside the main building in the Wallowa Lake Room. Volunteers must be approved through Raptor. Sorry, we cannot accept volunteers under the age of 16.
Thank you for supporting our program!

Know the Facts about E-Bikes & Scooters
Electric bicycles and scooters are becoming increasingly popular. In the state of Oregon, children under the age of 16 are not allowed to ride any class of electric bike or scooter.
We strongly encourage all students and adults to wear a helmet when riding any set of wheels, motorized or not. If you are under the age of 16, you must wear a helmet when biking, scootering, or skating.
Know the facts, follow safety laws, and stay safe!

🦷Free Dental Services Offered at Hiteon🦷
The Virginia Garcia Dental team has served the Beaverton School District by providing free dental assessments, sealants, and fluoride to children in the district for more than 10 years now. This year, Hiteon is included as one of the 23 BSD schools this year. These services are target to students in grades K, 1, 2, 3.
The scheduled dates for Hiteon are 10/30, 12/4, 2/18, 5/18. Please mark your calendars.
A few weeks prior to the above dates, we will send an information sheet and consent form home to families (in English and Spanish). The signed consent form allows children to receive the free dental assessment, sealants, and fluoride, or decline all services.

Volunteer Background Check System
If you haven’t done so already, please reapply to be a volunteer in the Beaverton School District. We’re implementing a new volunteer management system over the summer and need time to process and complete the criminal background checks for all applicants.
Start on the Volunteer webpage on the district website. The entire process — including the review of the Child Abuse Prevention & Reporting and Adult Sexual Misconduct training materials — should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
Thank you for prioritizing our students’ safety and for your willingness to volunteer in BSD.
