Principals' Message Principals' Message

Pleasant Valley Middle School Families,

It has been a pleasure working with your student(s) this year at Pleasant Valley Middle School. Our Mission as a school is that we know each student by Name, Strength and Need. Our teachers and staff have been working hard to build positive relationships and discover what each student is great at and also what they need to thrive. This is a challenge that we take seriously and will continue to work on this with your students the entire year.

Fall has now arrived at our campus and we want to make sure that students are wearing appropriate clothes for the morning and afternoon as there have been some dynamic changes in temperature on a daily basis. Having a jacket or sweatshirt in the morning has been very helpful to ensure that students are comfortable and ready to learn each day.

As part of our seasonal change we have also been looking at ways to improve our school systems here at PVM. This week we have started doing some expectation reteaching in the lunchroom for all of our students. This includes reviewing expectations, updating signage and making sure all of our students and staff are supporting the positive systems of being Safe, Respectful and Responsible at Pleasant Valley while we are eating lunch and having fun on the playground.

Thank you all for your partnership and support of PVM. We take great pride in working hard to educate our students and support our families. We look forward to conferences in early November and connecting with each of you. Have a great week Pleasant Valley.

Vaccination updates. Life threatening medical condition/allergy.

Hello PVM families!

Nurses are reviewing student vaccination records and will be sending out letters to families who have students out of compliance with vaccination requirements. Students entering the 7th grade are due for a TDaP booster vaccination. If your child has had updated vaccinations recently, please be sure to get record of the vaccination(s) to our nurses so we may update them in Skyward. Nurses will notify affected families about upcoming exclusion dates, if necessary.

Life threatening health condition/allergy

If your student has a life threatening medical condition/allergy, we must have updated health information each year as well as medication at school forms for any rescue medications that need to be kept at the nurse's office at school. Parents and nurses work together to create an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for what to do for your child in the case of a medical emergency. Please contact our nurses if your student has a life threatening medical condition/allergy and you have not already alerted the school and had an EAP created. Students and parents will need to meet with nurses before a student may self-carry any rescue medications.

Updating contact and health information

Parents/guardians please make sure you are updating the School Health Form in Skyward each year so that we have correct and current information regarding your child/ren (complete the "Update" in Skyward Family Access. Update opens August 1st each year to update school forms.). Skyward does not pull information forward each school year. There are many School Health Forms that have not been updated for 2-4 years. We need current information and this is how we most often know if your child has a Life threatening health condition. We want to keep your child/ren safe while at school and we can't do our job if we do not have correct and updated information.

Thank you for your time in this important matter.

From your School Nurse Janel Salisbury, BSN, RN & Building Nurse Diane Davis, LPN

Cross country meet dates Cross country meet dates

Cross country will be having meets on the following dates, all starting at 4:15 pm (except 10/8 at Lewisville, starting at 3:15). Students will be transported to meets, but must have their own ride home from the meet. There is a long break between when school lets out at 2:40 and when the meet begins at 4:15, so it will be good for students to bring a snack or small meal with them for after school, as well as a water bottle.

Student supervision is not provided after meets end, so it is important that students are picked up promptly, right at the end of the meet. Consistent late pick up from practices or meets may result in the student being unable to participate in meets, and being required to end practices in time to ride the primary bus home.

This year, Battle Ground Public Schools joins most Southwest Washington schools and districts in using the Standard Response Protocol for emergencies. Depending on the situation, a school will be placed in a hold, secure, lockdown, evacuation or shelter. See what these terms mean.
