Pinehurst Mission: The mission of Pinehurst Early Elementary is to a provide high quality early childhood program which supports the development of the whole child.
Dear Pinehurst Families,
Happy October! We have had a wonderful start to the school year, and our students are settling into routines, building friendships, and growing as learners each day. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
This month, we are looking forward to Parent-Teacher Conferences, and our goal is to see 100% of our families! Conferences are an important opportunity to learn about your childโs academic progress, celebrate strengths, discuss areas for growth, and work together to set your child up for success. When families and schools work as a team, our students benefit!
October is also a great time to continue building strong school habits. Regular, on-time attendance makes a difference, even in kindergarten and first grade. Every day at Pinehurst provides important opportunities for learning, connection, and growth.
Thank you for trusting us with your children each day. We are grateful to have such wonderful families as part of our Pinehurst community and look forward to seeing you at conferences!
Warmly,
Anne Bennett
Principal

๐ Be Here for the Surprise! ๐
Every Day Counts at Pinehurst!
Being at school every day matters! Regular attendance helps children build strong learning habits, stay connected with their classmates and teachers, and keep up with important learning.
To celebrate great attendance, Pinehurst Elementary will have a surprise Pop-Up Attendance Reward each month! Students wonโt know which day it will happen, so theyโll want to be here so they donโt miss out! โญ
Surprises might include a special treat, a dance party, a fun activity, or something completely unexpected!
Walk-a-Thon
Our first fundraiser of the year will be Friday, October 30th. Pinehurst will be having a Walk-a-Thon to raise money for the end of the year celebration and field trips. More news will be coming home soon!

ParentView Updates
It is vital that we have the most up to date information regarding your child's contact numbers and contact persons. If your child was enrolled in Young 5s or Kindergarten last year, please login to ParentVue https://www.mtmorrisschools.org and update your information. If your number changes or if your child's medical needs change, please login to ParentVue and update your child's emergency information.
School Expectations
Mt. Morris Schools has a commitment to teaching positive behaviors that are expected in school. At Pinehurst we teach PAWS and what this looks like in different areas around the school. We also constantly and consistently praise and acknowledge positive behaviors. Please make sure to read the student handbook on our website about positive behavior support and disciplinary measures.
Bus Behavior
Please know that riding a bus is a privilege. All students must adhere to the bus expectations located in the student handbook on the building's website. Failure to follow these rules may result in permanent removal from the bus. It is vital for our drivers to be able to concentrate on the road at all times to make sure students arrive to school and home safely.
Change of Clothes
Please make sure there is a change of clothes in a plastic bag in your child's backpack. Children this age often have accidents or spills. If there is a change of clothes in their backpack, we will not have to disrupt learning to call home.
Capturing Kids Hearts
October - Self-Direct
What does it mean to Self-Direct?
Self-Direction is the ability and learned skill to cast a vision of future goals and then take intentional steps toward who, where, and what we want to be. Instead of focusing on things to control or avoid, we emphasize our responsibility to make positive choices related to our emotions, attitudes, and actions.
Why focus on Self-Direction?
- Self-Direction strengthens relationships. Self-Direction helps to grow social skills and develop meaningful, positive relationships with others.
- Self-Direction teaches personal responsibility. Learning to Self-Direct teaches students to take responsibility for their own actions.
- Self-Direction helps us to regulate emotions: Self-Direction empowers students to regulate their impulses and emotional responses to situations and circumstances in their life.
Self-Direction in Action:
- Practice goal setting and action planning. When we establish goals and develop action plans, we learn to take intentional steps to successfully achieve goals.
- Monitor and adjust. Provide students with regular feedback and opportunities to self-assess progress toward goals to make adjustments and improvements in their behaviors.
- Reflect and evaluate. Facilitate discussions and reflection to prompt students to examine what they do, think, and say against their goals and vision for their life and learning.
